Ed wanted Marshall tones for rhythym and SLO tones for leads. I'm not saying they were successful. That was the goal. However I have gotten ok cleans with a Strat and a 5150. Lowered the guitar volume a bit. Got by.
Older I get the more I like the rock tones from the rhythym channel. Gotta be played loud. That's another thing. 5150 amps were designed to be played loud. That's when they sound best.

Recto/Tremoverb: sledge hammer
Both are cool, but I generally prefer the Recto tone. A boost/OD can make the Recto track faster like 5150, but you can't really make a 5150 open up like a Recto.

To me the Marshall cab sounds like there is a blanket over it. Yes the 5150 cab is a little more trebly. But it's also clearer. Not as muffled sounding. I assume you'll use whatever cab you've got. Just wanted to add my 2 cents about cabs and speakers.
