The changes made to the amp were what Eddie suggested and what he uses now. At least that what was said on the website. The 100s is the version that Ed has been using live most recently.

With that being said I could understand that it may not be worth it to most people to spend the extra dough. Personally I love the original EVH. For me It's been the amp that always sticks around while the others end up being sold. If I would change anything about it I would add more gain and low end to channel two. It seems that this version may be the answer to that for me. Resonance control and external bias are also cool add ons... I would never have added more gain to channel 3 but so be it.

I purchased mine through Brad (King Guitar) and it will be here next week. I still have my original EVH and I will try to give an unbiased opinion on who it compares.

I have one and it kicks Ass ! to my ears, tighter, warmer, bigger, crazy amounts of gain, a bit noisy on the red channel, but it is worth extra money have had both versions. It is a beast.

Thats cool man ! Wow you might be the first to have one. I saw a couple dealers selling them on ebay (preorder) as well as Brad.
They say production was about 100 but who knows if thats the real #.

Do you also have the original 100 watt version of the EVH along side this new one ?

On the original version I like how channel two is more open and not as compressed as channel three. Im just hoping for more gain and girth on channel two.

The blue channel has as much girth and gain as anyone could want. I only have gain on like 10:00 oclock and it is screaming, resonance at midway bass at noon and it s huge. On the original I would ave bass maxed and it still a tad wimpy.

Well it will probably be me ha ha I am a major flipper

I love the 3 channels of my 5150 III 50 and I hate that green & blue share controls, if the 100S gives three true channels of awesome rather than the shared, that is a killer amp.

But for $2200 new? IDK if I'd spend that loot when a Mesa Roadster gives 4 channels of awesome for the the same price. The Mrak V too for that matter.

Sorta feels like S is the do-over.

Just when you think you got the best thing, the company comes out with a few improvements. Leaves a sour taste in your mouth, doesn't it?

Marketing 101 to keep the line alive. Much like Apple and the iPhone.

+1
Oh yeah, and you have to throw in the very predictable marketing ploy "this is what The Man uses" (until the next tour) From the website: "This limited edition hand-customized EVH 5150 III 100S head is identical to the setup Eddie Van Halen has recently toured with, and features the exact same custom modifications".

So they're "hand customized", as opposed to robot customized?
