The changes made to the amp were what Eddie suggested and what he uses now. At least that what was said on the website. The 100s is the version that Ed has been using live most recently.
With that being said I could understand that it may not be worth it to most people to spend the extra dough. Personally I love the original EVH. For me It's been the amp that always sticks around while the others end up being sold. If I would change anything about it I would add more gain and low end to channel two. It seems that this version may be the answer to that for me. Resonance control and external bias are also cool add ons... I would never have added more gain to channel 3 but so be it.
I purchased mine through Brad (King Guitar) and it will be here next week. I still have my original EVH and I will try to give an unbiased opinion on who it compares.
