A tad too mushy on the low end I think.. it is fizzing out a bit and losing the clarity. I think it sounded great before so why mess with a good thing!!

This is a second Major he's modding. Some of the best Marshall tones ever from these amps. I think his secret is he doesn't go overboard with his mods, just tweaks the Marshall tone for gain perfection instead of going crazy with the basic Marshall tone like most modders can do.

I think it sounds glorious. In your opinion, is it that the bottom end sounds too mushy, or feels too mushy, or both? I have fought that a lot with my own plexi project before reaching what I think is just tight enough, just squishy enough, just fast enough, and has just the right amount of that little bit of sag. To me it is as much a feel thing as it is a sound thing. Really it may be more feel than sound.

Just messing around with some tone ideas with my 200w Major (Godzilla Plexi) and just lookin' for a little feedback on the sound of things.
I'm trying to get a really squishy tone in drop D flat without getting too mushy on the bottom end and over doing things.
I'm using my old Rocktron RX10 to help things along. :)
If you would be so kind as to let me know what ya think, it would be so greatly appreciated.
Hope you enjoy the video, cheers.

sounds great. What kind of mods are you doing to these beyond the original circuit? Always looking for new ideas
as I am restoring my 100w super tremolo right now. vintage plus some improvements.

I worked on dialing in the bottom-end for about a half an hour and I think this recording is little better now.
Anyways, I happier with it now. :)

I think it sounds incredible! That's all. .. Eric

Yes STOP right there! It's sounds frickin' killer. Now enjoy it
BTW: Lay it Down is my favorite RATT song to play...so fun. You are nailing that tone.

Thank you so much Eric for taking the time to listen and comment.

I agree with the others..it's perfect old school Marshall as is. I would suggest buying an early 70s handwired metalface to experiment with, leave the Major to its present perfection.

Yep, the second clip is better. Lay it Down is a classic riff. Never gets old and just continue to turn heads when busted out of nowhere. It is the ultimate in mean riffs.

Yep, that's even better! Now... Don't EVER touch it again! Don't change a tube, turn a knob, don't even unplug or plug your guitar back in! lol. By the way, what type of pickup and speakers are you using?

That Rocktron really seals the deal for me.

Just adds that little 'extra' without adding nothing. If that makes sense.

Dude, that is the perfect Marshall tone right there. It barks like a rabid dog, and it's as juicy as a peach. Don't fuck with it anymore, it's not gonna get better than that.

Sounds awesome, the bridge sounds great but that guitar gets some really cool non-bridge pickup tones.

Lol, thank you Bro!!

I have a Bill Lawrence 500xl in the bridge and a DiMarzio tone zone in the neck.
Also I was using my Marshall 4x12 with Celestion G12-M 25w Greenbacks.

Thank you and yes, that makes total sense.

The Rocktron is very subtle sounding and if anything it's more of a feel thing happening.
