Yeah, the Special is total garbage. The 1000 is made in Korea with inferior metals, (still hardened steel, but I suspect the material and parts come from China), and the Special is even more inferior using zinc alloy. A German OFR is 100% German steel, craftsmanship, and attention to detail by Schaller. They're now being made in the USA again, I haven't experienced one yet. However, they only state the locking nuts and saddles are made in the USA, but oddly don't mention that the baseplate is?? I'm guessing Schaller still makes the best version, the Lockmeister with all German C45 Forged steel.

All that said, I'll say it again. I'll take a Gotoh 1996T any day.

The 1000 is a scourge on this earth. I can't tell you how many chucklefucks have brought me ones that the saddle is stripped out from screwing the insert block in too hard. Those fuckers will strip out if you look at them wrong..

Luckily the Gotoh 1996T is $100-125.. and since the Floyd 1000 is on so many "high-end" guitars, they sell used for $125+/-. You can break even when you swap. Still a pain in the ass that you have to do that.

They make saddle shims. All trems should be shimmed to the radius of the guitar (by the end user).

If you could find a Holdsworth, those necks are also supposed to be fairly large.

A Midnight velvet HT might be in my future. I've got plenty cream Tone Nerd pickups/rings here looking for work.

Made in the USA is so overrated these days.....The US does not automatically make the best stuff. It's 2026. I wish it was an import and more affordable to be honest. Plus, the quality would probably be better.

They're on the right track w these models but still miss the mark. White pickups/rings and softshell case for that amount of money isn't cutting it for me. If I'm looking to spend $2,799 I'd rather save a little more rubles and go for a Luxxtone.

Cream pickups/rings, option for hardtail, vintage brass tremelo bridge or OFR. Basic old school solid colors w hardshell case and I'm in.

Isn’t the Floyd 1000 kind of a weak point for an American guitar? Not a Floyd expert by any means.

I've had over 20 USA 08-09 Charvels. All came with the 1000. None gave me any issues. I gigged a ton with them. Eventually, the few USAs I kept around I swapped in vintage OFRs just because. But, the 1000s worked fine for my numerous gigs with them.
