Whenever I play at GC people come over to watch and then try to talk to me. lol.

Were you playing Lay It Down by Ratt?

I have come to a conclusion after some deep thoughts. If you can't play Paganini's 5th Caprice while trying out some new guitars then just give it up. Just take the damn guitar to the cashier and pay for it without trying it out. :D

I went to Guitar Center a few years ago and there was this older guy standing up playing these neoclassical scales and was dressed like circa 1986. His wife (or girlfriend) was sitting in a chair next to him while he played. It was so ridiculous, especially because he had the amp cranked in the store.

Cliffs Of Dover. If I want to hear something get butchered I'll go to the deli.

Any tuning with the low E tuned down sooo low that only whales can hear it.

If you're an old guy with Khaki shorts on don't play any Tom Petty. You're going to play it at your pool side gig anyway, why play it on your day off?

Any Limp Bizquick. They sucked 15 years ago and suck worse now. Don't suck like them.

Any Black Sabbath. Iommi was missing fingers..........are you making fun of the disabled?

Any songs that reference guns. Think of the Liberal hipsters and their feelings?

That takes some balls to whip out Cliffs of Dover in a music store unless you have serious game. Been many years since I encountered music store guys playing the usual but 3 weeks ago some dude sitting there playing STH and I give him the look and sigh.....then I picked up a guitar and played it with the live embellishments and he stopped...funny..guess he got the joke. Then I started into a 2-5-1 jazz progression vamping with m7th and dom7b9 arpeggios and he stopped playing.

It's funny. It's definitely flattering if someone liked your playing or the tone you were getting and want's to shoot the shit but the whole time their yammering on all I can think is, I came to try out this guitar/amp, not talk to people I don't know! Keep it short and sweet people...

In general, if they are playing it well, I don't care. Sadly, that's rarely the situation.

The funny thing for me is that I almost never hear people play chords when they try out an amp. That's what most of us will be playing for most of the time if we buy the amp, so shouldn't we see how it sounds with them? But most of the time it's just weedly weedly.

The funny thing is that when I used to go to guitar stores, I would never play lead stuff. I'd check the action up top, but no solo stuff. Sometimes I'd get complimented playing the rhythm parts to songs (even Lay it Down :D ), because I would only play the ones that I had down cold. I figured if I didn't like hearing crappy playing, neither did other people.

The loudest players are usually the worst. That being said, every once in a while if they have a decent half stack I turn it up REALLY fucking loud and let people feel what a amp is supposed to do. Its great for as long as you can get away with it before the sales guys rush you...

side note: What about the drum room?

 I had to go there to get some sticks or something small and they had like 3 or 4 guys beating away at the drum sets. I remember saying to the guy at the register "I don't know how you do it man, hearing this all day would drive me completely insane".

When a guy sits down and before even playing it in standard...drop tunes the E as he only knows how to play in drop tunings.... so any song that is played after the "Bowwwwwwww" of someone tuning down as the first thing you hear out of the amp

Play anything ya want... Shit not given, just play and do your best

(Just never play paul simon's "you can call me al" on any PA as that song makes me murderously angry and I'll likely rip your eyes out, eat them, and then viciously skull hump your sockets till death overcomes.... what a grotesque and horrid "song"; it's utter filth. Disgusting)

Don't play the two songs below if you don't want an ass beating at Guitar Center. I'll post the videos for those that are too young to recognize the songs.

Ice Ice Baby - Vanilla Ice

Do You Really Want to Hurt Me - Culture Club
