Word is, over the years certain people 'around but not in' his inner circle have reported this. But, it's pretty easy to see how he's 'set up' certain situations to 'require' Russian military involvement...ie the bombings in Georgia, that Russia blamed terrorists for, when no proof was ever found; to the fake Ukranian 'Nazi's' (yes; they have a racist Battalion. Who cares lol) when their president is Jewish, and lost family to the Holocaust. These are things Putin does to 'justify' his invasions...when a neighboring country doesn't have a 'Russia influenced government' he decides to act with his military.

Putin ain't getting any younger, and yearns for the days of old when the USSR truly was powerful, and very formidable. While Russia is still dangerous, in a conventional fight we'd wipe the floor with them. They fight in a very old fashioned and dated way. Which is why they haven't won, and why the 25th ranked military is keeping them at bay.
The wildcard is, would Russia dare to attack us? I doubt it...unless they combined with China...then we'd have to use nukes I'm afraid.
Hopefully that situation never arises.
But think about WHO they are now allied with...China, North Korea, Iran....pretty much the Axis of Evil, the way they treat(and murder) their citizens....
For those of you that favor Russia, let all that sink in.

China has recently been caught trying to illegally expand their border map into Russian territory, among others. They pissed off a lot of countries by doing this, Russia included.

They're known for surprising people so I don't take it as an immediate sign that China is turning against Russia, but it's an interesting development for sure.

Every military has some...the military usually represents a percentage of the population..unfortunately there will be some. One thing about Russia, though, is the propensity they have to conscript people from the outlier asian populations at a higher rate vs the less Asian 'slavs' from the Moscow/St Pete areas...this is also who fought in Afghanistan for 12 years as the majority. This info came from defectors pre 1990; and still holds true today.
So the Russian government has a bit of a racist tendency to make their minority population fight their wars for them.
