Nice find..... It's nice to see original Lemco's in the bypass cap and tonestack! The only questionable ceramic might be the 5000pf bright cap, but if it's not noisy or hissy leave it be.

It is kinda rare to see a laydown Power transfomer in 72, very cool. Mine has a standup transformer. I can't confirm if your Sylvania 6ca7 are STR's but all Sylvania's were heavy duty tubes anyway. I'll bet the amp sound pretty good judging from the pics and components.

I have some new NOS 5000pf Mallory ceramics caps that sound like the lemco ceramic caps if you think you need one, but I'd keep it original for as long as you can.

Yes!! Nice find indeed. I bet that thing screams
That 5k Lemco bright cap on the pot should be OK.
It doesn't have to block any DC voltage there, just bypass audio around the pot.

I believe the laydown PT was used in the Canadian JMPs for a few yrs after they stopped putting them in USA and British versions..kinda like the JMP style lasting into the mid 80s in Canadian/Western Europe Marshalls vs the JCM 800 style in Britain/USA. No idea why that was? But I almost bought a 74 super lead with the laydown PT...the seller said he brought it down from Canada years back.

Cool thread!

I have a late 80’s 1959 JCM800. I am plugging into top left with channels jumpered. When I turn up volume one it adds so much treble and fizz it will rip your head off. I don’t remember it sounding like this. I used to use it for a pedal platform running it clean (loud as f$&k). I put it away for a few years but recently brought it back out. I wonder if something went bad while sitting. Seems a bit more hiss at idle now too.

That's the way they normally are. The bright channel has a huge bright cap on the volume control that makes it super bright at low settings. I think old Marshalls have a great clean and are great with pedals but not the stock superlead circuit (only minimal mods needed).
