I just find the hi hat a little clangy and overpowering. It needs to come down a bit in the mix or you should remove some of the mids so it shines more.
Sorry it just stood out to me.
I Tried is the clangy one....it sounds better on WhyJames Lugo":3o02he0k said:Randy Van Sykes":3o02he0k said:Sounding really good.James Lugo":3o02he0k said:New Mixes:

On I Tried I just found myself thinking I would want to shine that up and place it in the mix a little smoother. It was drawing my attention the whole song, which it shouldn't be.
Interesting. So you recorded on 2 inch analog, dumped to Pro Tools for mixing, then dump to analog 2 track for master master mix, then will dump back to digital for CD production?James Lugo":sx9osemi said:Randy Van Sykes":sx9osemi said:I Tried is the clangy one....it sounds better on WhyJames Lugo":sx9osemi said:Randy Van Sykes":sx9osemi said:Sounding really good.James Lugo":sx9osemi said:New Mixes:

I Tried isn't done and also was an internal protools bounce and not a layback to tape. That makes a huge difference and we mix with the layback to tape in mind, meaning a hair brighter, cuz the tape darkens slightly. But I will look at the tunes and check out the hh. Thanks

That's interesting. That is a lot of A to D, D to A, A to D converting.James Lugo":3s43qog5 said:Randy Van Sykes":3s43qog5 said:Interesting. Yeah it's a little whacky:
1. track to tape and dump in real time to protools
2. mix OTB using a Chandler EMI mixing and a tone of outboard gear
3. run final mixes back to tape and as it records to tape it dumps back to protools
4. then we take a 44/24 file to our masterer

That trainbeat on I Miss Home is amazing, and the same goes for the guitars. And to top it off, the vocals ain't to shabby eitherIt might just be rock 'n roll, but it's good rock 'n roll.

I'm really happy with the outcome and appreciate all the mixing tips from the guys here. Many of the suggestions were implemented. I've been listening to the final mixes tonight and am really happy. I'm ready to get this music mastered and get it out there. We master Friday. Thanks for all the help.
