And did Gilbert, Nuno and Vito really used one to record during the early 90's????

I really like the ADA MP1 3TM.
Pretty sure Nuno and Paul used those.
I don't use mine much anymore, but it still can kick out the tones.

You can get a "regular" MP1 and boost it as well.

ADA MP-1, in my opinion. They kept trying to improve upon it, but after trying them all, the first one was the best for me.

And yes, ALOT of folks used them in the early 90's. And I think GISH from Smashing Pumpkins was recorded with one, too.

Back in the Stone Age, I remember liking the original WAY better than the MP2... :D

Had them all and liked the MP1 the best. The Mp2 had a "Brown" and effects like chorus IIRC

I always wanted to try the JMP-1

I bought a MP1 in 88' and I used for many years with various heads and power amps. The best combo for me was an MP1, BBE Sonic Maximizer, and a Marshall EL34 100/100 power amp. The older MP1's seemed to have more gain than versions that came out in the early 90's.The MP2 was not very good.

The MP1 with 3TM mod is the way to go. But an original mp1 is fine. The only issue is parts are getting harder to find for them if you need repairs done.

The original MP1 had chorus too. I've had 3 regular old MP1s and still love them, but since getting a Friedman modified Marshall, I've barely used my rack..

Hammett used an MP1 on Master of Puppets as I recall (I had a link to Flemming's notes on my old PC), plus Skid Row used them on their first tour.

I'm with Josh. I thought the MP2 was a step back. They tried to make it do everything and they ended up with a box that did nothing particularly well - IMHO of course....

Had a JMP1, it was pretty cool. I think its kinda overpriced right now anyway.

So now that i know the MP1 is better than the MP2, what about "Classic"? What do you think about that one?

I used a very similar rig for a long time. MP1>Sonic Maximizer>Mesa Boogie Simul-Class 295. Also used various multiprocessors to add some grease as needed. IMO the MP1 sounds much better with the Sonic Maximizer. Some amps don't benefit much from them, but the MP1 was a night and day difference with it.

I've got one in my closet. I'm gonna get it back out and get a cheap power amp eventually. It's still kicks some real serious ass. the mp1 un-modded is still king in my book.

It's always funny to me when somebody says this or that was recorded using a _____ . Usually neither the band nor the producer really remembers what was tracked with what, how many times it was done with different gear, how much of the solo was spliced together from what cuts, how much stuff was added postproduction, etc. remember the Michael Wagener thread. I don't think these guys are being evasive or hiding something. They really have no idea what made it on the album or what was done to it to get it there in some instances.

i disagree...wagener seemed to have taken notes.

he's the collective authority on what the guys mentioned here used to record.

I remember always fighting with volume control, balancing out each channel together. Some would be loud and others really low
