Advice on retrieving gear sent out for repairs. UPDATE

I issued a FedEx call tag for pickup. I spoke with the builder, and told him that I would like to pay him for the work up to this point. He replied that there would be no-charge, since he just doesn't have the time to fine-tune the device. He's totally swamped with production (which is a good thing), and that he would add notes in with the unit to my tech. Very cool! I think once I told him who my tech is, he was comfortable with releasing it to a new set of hands. He also stated that he NEVER personally takes on repairs of his older gear, but was so excited when he heard that I had one of these units... Especially one in mint condition. Apparently it is the first circuit he ever designed. He said that he never should have taken-on the repairs to begin with, and apologized for not being able to complete the tuning process.

A class-act!

So you stirred up shit over nothing?
No, but that's exactly what you're attempting to turn it into... Satan much?

So he still feels that there's a problem with the amp and you had to threaten to fly to CA to get it because he wouldn't return it. But since he's not charging you, he's a class act? Really...

Well now you should tell us who it is. I mean the guy came through, and now I want to know what your thing is.

That's quite an interpretation of events.  Did you think this up yourself?

No. In fact I read what you wrote. Did you forget already?

boy, that's 3 minutes of my life I won't get back...It just took me 6 months to get my 113 cubic inch Harley engine rebuilt. It was rebuilt by the best guy in the state. He is very busy. I knew that going in. I did not bitch or whine and when I got it back it was exactly what I wanted. Scary fast, bullet proof. Patience is a virtue. If you deal with the best, and the best is a small enterprise, you must allow time. Quality is not fast.

seems

may be
I can't be 100% sure that he's up to no-good, nor am I implying he is
It's not anything he has said
I think

Wow!

This all adds up to rampant speculation on your part. IMO of course. (Your words though)

And after all that he's special.

Lol. I kinda wish you had flown out... :D

Hence my comment; "...it's what he hasn't said that concerns me." This sort of thing is nothing new. The music business is replete with these types of characters... It's this 'elitist liberal' mentality that I despise so much.

I would NEVER take on a repair, and then tell a customer; "Sorry, but I don't have time to get to it..." If he didn't have the time to do what was requested, then he should have indicated this fact instead of telling me to ship it to him. I could have had my tech do the repairs, and I guarantee you that it would have been completed within 2 weeks, regardless of the workload. I wanted the designer of the unit to do the repairs... I'll never make that mistake again. I still don't understand why it would have taken over 3 months to address the issue, and it's still not complete. I'm not happy at all over this, and I haven't gotten the unit back yet. My gut-feeling tells me (and it is never wrong) that this guy wanted to keep the unit, and was hoping I would just forget about it. There's no-way at his skill level that he could not complete what (for him) is a simple repair... No way! If I don't get the unit back, I will be at his door with the local police.

The haters don't care anything about proper conduct or ethical behavior. What this minority of haters want is 'character assassination'. Now that I have somewhat achieved a resolve to the issue, the haters are pissed! There is no 'fresh-meat' to be had, and so they are now looking to feed on my hand... The builders name will not be released now, as this would just supply fodder for the Satanically influenced juvenile minority. Plus, it's just way too nice of a day for that! :) God bless all of you.

This.

The guy "NEVER takes on repairs" for stuff he built? What kind of builder can't work on his own products?

He said that he just doesn't have the time (or the staff) to do repairs on out-of-warranty products, which is totally understandable in 'this' economy. I gave him the number of my tech as a possible source to help with the overflow.

I think some are under the impression that the item is an amp... It is not. It is a singular effects device. It does NOT take 3 months to replace a 1 x cooked IC and a handful of capacitors... No way!
