That 'scientist' is a well known shill for the oil industry. He makes a LOT of money saying global warming is bunk. Meanwhile, the vast majority of serious scientists with half a brain understand that global warming is a real threat to this planet if left unchecked. Stop listening to Rush Limbaugh and the hacks at Fox News and pull your head out of the sand to get a dose of the real world pal. You may not give a crap if your grandchildren inherit a messed up planet but most of the sane people around you do care.

PS: Right wingers hate Gore because despite all their smear attempts over the years, he's still relevant enough to win a Nobel Prize lol. Gore has also been proven right about 2 huge issues also. Going to war in Iraq(predicted a quagmire that would hurt US interests) and he was right about ozone being bad(a couple years after his statement warning about it, the 'ozone hole' was discovered). It just drives them nuts to see him around winning awards and being proven right lol.

Ya ignorant people piss me off! I moved on to a Suhr S2, but the JB sounded good in the Silhouette. A Tone Zone sounded even better than the JB though(top end was smoother).

Don't mean to stir the pot too much, but to be honest, Yasser Arafat won the same award, and I wouldn't exactly call him peaceful....

Yeah I agree on the Arafat pick being a total joke. That doesn't make over 50 years of good decisions worthless though either.

The only people talking the truth in politics these days is Ron Paul and Mike Gravel. Do yourself a favor and look thos guys up and read about what they have to say. You hear whats really going on.

Except I've known Ron Paul on a personal level since I was a small child, and I can tell you first hand that he is FUCKING INSANE. He is just plain not right in the head (He's from our district, and I have family in politics in this area. I was always dragged to all kinds of events growing up, and still participate today. I've had multiple dinners with him, as well as longer one on one conversations on a couple occasions). He'll zone out sometimes while he's talking and he just starts staring into space as he finishes what he's saying. He's prone to fits of zoning out with this really crazy glassy expression on his face. I've seen him, during a conversation, actually just shake his head and say loudly "no, no, no, no, no, no, no" until the person expressing a different opinion just finally gave up trying to talk. He's not all there. Granted, I'm damn near a libertarian, myself, and I agree with some of his ideas, but he is just NOT a stable person or anyone who should be leading anything. If anyone has a Christ complex in this thread, it's him. He promises a lot, but has no feasible plan for any way to enact any of this. He's an orthodontist by trade, and it shows in his knowledge of policy making.

He's always been nuts. He hasn't changed much at all in the last 20 years.

I'm not an Al Gore fan by any stretch, but I have not a fucking clue about the science of global warming, so I'll just keep my nose out of it!

I asked about the Sil Spec because I have one as well, and I'm looking for a bridge HB replacement I think. The options for bridge HBs are damn near infinite, so I'm taking suggestions!

you people are missing the point.

Thanks for the info as you cant find that kind of insight from alot of sources. Im not sold on either one of the guys I posted but crazy or not Paul and or Gravel are the only ones pointing at both sides bullshit and telling everyone "Hey the king is naked!" while all the rest of the candidates are are picking sides and and voting party lines to buy votes and sitting on capitol hill dialing for dollars for thier next campain. People in this country need to wake the fuck up and quite listening to idiots like Limbaugh, Hannity, Gore, Sharpton, Moore, Clinton, Colter etc do some reading and quit cherry picking your info so that its in line with your liberal or conservative view of the world.

Ive said it before IMHO most people read and go to places that feed them thier political comfort food. Makes them feel better. God forbid you'd actaully read research both sides of the issue.

If we can buy ‘carbon offsets’ for our environmental missteps, why not for our other sins?

By Peter Schweizer

Some environmentalists are pushing a nifty idea to get people out of the moral quandary of being alarmed by CO2 emissions but not wanting to change their lifestyles. They are called "carbon offsets," and everyone from Al Gore to the Presbyterian Church is pushing them.

The idea provides a simple way to absolve you of your guilt.

Say you are wealthy and fly on a Gulfstream G400 jet. The plane will emit 1 ton of CO2 per passenger per hour. Flying commercial on a Boeing 777 will emit only .06 tons per passenger per hour. Wealthy environmentalists feel guilt about this, so they buy a carbon offset to supposedly reduce carbon emissions by an equal amount. The "offset" comes in the form of paying for solar panels or planting trees that "offset" the damage you have done. Buy an offset and — voilà— you are "carbon neutral."

Americans are snapping up these offsets, according to Time magazine, and public figures such as California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger and Sen. Dianne Feinstein, D-Calif., buy them regularly. In endorsing the practice, Time says the practice provides an opportunity to "pay for your carbon sins."

Offsets are a brilliant idea: They allow people to carry on with their current behavior, buy their way out of their obligations, and along the way declare their moral cleanliness. As The Seattle Times put it, offsets are basically an "eraser."

We all have areas of our life that we feel guilty about. So why limit offsets simply to the carbon we produce? Why not expand offsets to erase our other sins? After all, why should environmentalists have all the fun?

Here are some suggestions:

* The Adultery Offset. People who are caught in compromising positions could purchase an offset from a pro-marriage organization such as Focus on the Family. By buying the Adultery Offset, the guilty party would counterbalance their adultery footprint with a monogamous couple trained by this organization. Like the carbon-emitter absolved of carbon sin, this would allow an individual to be declared "adultery neutral" instantly. As with carbon offsets, the guilty parties would not actually have to stop engaging in adultery; he or she would simply need to write a check after every occurrence. Two enterprising Britons have even set up a satirical website called cheatneutral.com demonstrating how this could be done.

During the last Oscar ceremony, the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Science gave each Oscar presenter a carbon offset of 100,000 pounds of CO2, roughly double the average American's annual output. The Adultery Offset might prove to be even more popular in Hollywood.

* The Pilates Offset. Spending more time in the gym might be the best way to combat America's growing obesity crisis, but if you can't make it, don't worry. A Pilates Offset purchased from a local gym would absolve you of any of the weighty responsibility for obesity in America. With the offset, you would be paying for other people to become physically fit. Their increased buffness would neutralize your expanding waistline, and you would be "fat neutral."

Carbon offset companies offer decals that guilty Americans with large SUVs can put on their cars to declare that they are "carbon neutral." Obese Americans who purchased a Pilates Offset would receive a T-shirt declaring them physically fit, or at least "fat neutral." A Time article last October said you could buy carbon offsets as part of a "Low Carbon Diet." Why not offer them for real diets?

* The Tofu Offset. Do you want to tell your hip friends that you are vegan, but you just can't give up cheeseburgers? A simple solution would be to purchase a Tofu Offset from your local health foods store. With a TofuPass, you could maintain your status as a strict vegetarian without actually giving up the double-cheeseburger with bacon.

TerraPass, a carbon-offset company, calculates that if you drive 12,000 miles per year, you can offset your automobile's annual 20,000 pounds of carbon output with a $79.95 "Road Tripper" package.

To counteract that bacon double-cheeseburger, we could offer the "Whopper" package, which would allow you to indulge in your carnivorous habits but help fund vegan food stores. You could slap a sticker on your car that says "Eat Vegan" and still go through the McDonald's drive-through in good conscience.

* The Pamela Anderson Offset. If you are concerned about the humane treatment of animals but just love fur coats or veal piccata, this is the offset for you. By purchasing offsets from People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, you would stay in the good graces of PETA activists without giving up these luxuries. Perhaps PETA could do the same for small mammals, too. Attend an animal rights rally in your fur coat. It will be OK when you show them your PETA offset.

If these offsets don't sound quite so appealing, don't be alarmed. True, you might be outsourcing your moral responsibilities for something you care about and paying off your obligations without changing your behavior. But if we do this right, offsets will give us all a chance to be morally clean, concerned citizens without actually making any changes in our life. What could be better than that?

I thought he was an obstetrician (sp?)? I don't remember reading anything about him working on people's teeth.

So far all the public speeches I've heard him make... he seems pretty level-headed. He's clear, concise, and cuts to the point VERY quickly. I'm not doubting you or anything, just that I haven't seen this sort of behavior you're talking about, not even in the least.

I know you were trying to be funny and all... check it...

I was recently fortunate enough to attend a speech by Larry Page (one of the co-founders of Google). As you know, Google is known for using UNHOLY amounts of energy to power their data centers, and power has been one of our primary concerns when developing these facilities. Being based in California, Google's management is always looking for cleaner and more efficient ways of producing the power necessary to fuel these places. Larry Page pretty much dismissed the plan of 'carbon offsets' flatly by reasoning that anytime you pay a company or individual to not produce carbon in some way, that money is going to go back into the economy and as a side-effect, produce more carbon (manufacturing costs of goods/services bought/rendered).

Then he went on about the virtues of concentrated solar energy, windmill arrays, and underwater tide current arrays for producing power. Pretty cool stuff when you hear all the numbers behind it.

you see

the poop

It is a rather slap in the face that Gore gets this scientific Nobel award for being a gatherer of information and placing it to film
He didn't get the price/award in chemistry or physics, Scott. He got the price because he made a problem "popular".

His utility bill for one of his mansions is over $25,000 and he wants my poor ass to bolt solar panels on my roof
My sources are telling me that
a) the website who spread this "news" into the world is run by a doubtful (right wing ?) company, which just really is a letter box.
b) on Gore's website is a statement about it - and what forms/kinds of energy he's using.
