My favorite is when this guy or others do their pontificating, hike video. The good ol’ walk and talk. Gotta get those steps in. Might as well ruminate about something for just long enough to help the algorithmI don't dig bad brad's clickbait stuff plus Lifeson was a rockstar that used Gibson Lab series for years so I'd say that while he has decent taste in solid state gear, overall, he has shit in his ears. To his credit his ears are probably shot anyways so digital garbage will sound great to him.
Mark my words the day is coming when these digital wonder box makers are gonna screw you over and require monthly subscriptions or no chugga chugga gonna come out the speakers. People are short sighted and are roped in by this digital trash then pissed off when they get screwed by the maker.
Trying to have a channel on YT that makes revenue seems like a serious case of gaming the system rather than just producing great content.

Just another big band trying to milk every dollar on the way out by not having to ship a bunch of gear. But the ticket prices don’t get the benefit of those savings

These days ALL live shows are expensive. It's the only way artists make any money. They sure as fuck aren't making anything off album sales. Especially bands like Rush who haven't made a good album since 1985.

Yeah, it may honestly be a simple as it’s some new tech and gear for Alex to get into and it was fun for him. It’s still not a good look when you have a signature amp that you’re quite involved in. But anyone who thought, what is basically a silver jubilee, was anything special with his name on it had some thinking to do anyway.
I imagine something that is cool about the dig rig is it could also be loaded on a travel device that you can have in your hotel room and you would have you’re entire show, effects and all at your disposal on headphones or portable speaker.

Triumph was my jam but even his tone was garden variety 70s marshall bar band overdrive compared to another Canadian tone monster from that era.I sense a slight dislike for Rush Mr Mentoneman........................
Alex would have had better guitar tones if his amps had been secretly modded by Jose Arrendondo.

I love some of Alex's tones. All the World's a Stage is right up there with early VH in the tone quality dept. Flame away. I got my GK 250ML in 1988 because of Alex and I still play it hours per week. I'm never going digital and recently got my forever amp. But I love some if not most of Alex's tones.

In a way it reminds me of the Cream Reunion shows in 2005.
People were mortified Clapton didn’t use Marshalls and a Gibson.

It's not like Alex is lugging a Marshall stack on a dolly from the band van through the slush into and back out of the dingy bar. I doubt he ever even tunes a guitar on tour other than whatever he has in his hotel room. If I had Rush-like money and crew, I'd be bringing the Joe Bonamassa gear collection on tour with me. Digital might be what I keep for hotel room practice, but I'd still likely have a GK 250ML for that too.

I got into Rush late but I think his tones fit the songs, the song writing, structures and they are definitely in the complex and early progressive metal/hard rock genre which I can and do appreciate for what they are.
One of my best friends(may he RIP) who I played in a band with was a huge Marino fan.
