Am I Being Unreasonable?

Listed an amp on Reverb. Potential buyer messages me with questions and eventually we move to personal email. We agree to direct sale along with price. I told him I prefer PP F&F but if he wants G&S he'll need to add the extra 3.5% to the price to cover fees. I told him everything comes fully insured so he's protected if there's damage.

He then laughs at the notion of F&F and uses the example of shipping the amp to him before he pays me. He also told me we should split the fees. I really want to sell this amp but now I'm not sure if I want to make the sale.

A couple of years ago I was burnt on a G&S sale where the buyer claimed the item was damaged. PP sided with him and he got a full refund. He shipped the amp back and there was nothing wrong with it.

I'd definitely back out of a deal if a seller suggested using F&F unless it was someone I had established a previous track record of good dealings and trustworthiness with.

Yeah the f&f alone is a minor red flag

Add to that another minor red flag for splitting the shipping

And having you send the amp first is a NO GO

You sell that amp to that guy and he likes it.... I bet that prick will put in a claim one way or the other, send you back a bullshit blackstar amp. Then report the amp as returned and he gets your amp and HIS $$$ back.

I know dudes here use it between trustworthy members it just seems like if something happens during shipping it's a recipe for both sides to get burned. Maybe I'm off base.

That was my first thought at well

@Ryan990 please don't deal with this dude 🤣

I understand it from his POV which is why I linked him all my feedback across multiple platforms to try and put him at ease that I'm a reputable seller.

He was really happy to not have to pay any sales tax or additional shipping costs. If he buys via reverb he's paying over $300 in sales tax along with the $125 for shipping but he wants me to split a $130 PP fee.

If you send it to me/Friends and family/a smile just passed/ rainy days gone see

I listed a rifle on Gunbroker two weeks ago. I knew I'd get pinched on fees and I always offer free shipping. A guy messaged me and somehow got his phone number to get through. So we texted a bit, then had a good chat on the phone, agreed on a price, he Zelle'd me the money on Sat. and I shipped today. I've had one deal like this ever go south. Somehow you just know if someone is a straight shooter. In fact, I'm shipping my Suhr SL68 tomorrow to a guy who's shipping me his SL67 and some cash and tubes. But we did a similar deal about eight mos ago, text all the time now and we're totally cool with each other. You gotta buy the seller as much as the goods.

Message this buyer back and raise the price $370 smackAHroos. Tell him theres an increasing trend of assholes increasing their prices in the classifieds.

I had a whole post ready to reply with and then re-read the OP. Fuck this buyer. Why is he asking to split fees if you guys are off of Reverb? That's a really easy negotiation and he's going to be saving hundreds of dollars on tax. What a fuckin sandwich.

You have to trust your gut instinct when buying and selling. It's a complete mess out there these days.

That's one of the biggest red flags so far - like, just making the deal off reverb is gonna save him literally hundreds of dollars in taxes

Why the kentucky fried fuck would he be so worried about splitting the shipping if he was already getting three times that amount in discounts?

Unless were talking about an ampeg fridge 8x10 that's making me MAD suspicious, shipping is max going to be like a hundred bucks. For a high end amp there's going to be at least twice that in fees and taxes he's saving. At the least.

Seller will be saving a ton selling off of Reverb too. Basic seller fees are 8.5% including payment processing. Probably the same amount the buyer is saving in sales tax.
