The great "Why doesn't stuff sell in the classifieds" debate.

I wonder how many in my shoes there are. There is a number of things I would sell, but with the buyers market, not worth it. Then if I am looking to buy, its gotta be a great deal and sometimes even those I am passing on.

What I see on Reverb in general is high prices and here on Rig talk about average prices. Partially due to the fact that anything that is cheap gets snatched up quickly.

About a month or two ago I listed a bunch of stuff for sale on the Forums, as usual my prices were super low.
No bites on the Forums, put them on Reverb and they all sold within a day.

This almost always seems to be the case and I don't know why.
I actually sell the stuff lower on the forums since there are no fees, but the stuff still sells on Reverb?

I think people might feel more protected using a middle man.

Same. Even though I'm selling way more than buying, if an amazing deal shows up I'll consider it.

But I worry that as the market continues to soften, everything will seem like a great deal, until six months later when you realize you still overpaid.

Reverb is going to be the place for most of the gear you own.

This is a place where specialty gear will find a buyer more quickly.

Don't be surprised when your big brand thing for 80% of MSRP doesn't sell in 10 seconds on RT. Put yourself in the buyers shoes. Why?

Why would they buy your thing for top dollar that they could buy new or locally? If you don't have a good answer to that, there's your answer.

OTOH, if you have a rare rack pre, specialty high gain amp or hard to find shredder guitar that caters to what this crowd is generally into? You're going to sell it 10 times faster here, for less hassle, no fees, and easy transaction. It's not a debate, it's just common sense.

So, what you're saying is exactly what I said. Cool/Unique/Rare stuff sells here. Maybe smaller things like pickups, tubes, etc.. otherwise you have to be giving it away to get a buyer on the forum. Correct, there's no debate there. I was just trying to phrase it in a "kinder, gentler" way to possibly spark discussion and backing it up with stats from my own experience.. not conjecture. It just reinforces my decision to stick to Reverb when I can demonstrate a nearly 78% higher sell through rate on Reverb for the same or more money (after fees, etc..) vs. selling locally or here. What advantage do I have for listing something here or locally exclusively for a reasonable price (even though you/others may not feel it is) and let it sit, when I could sell it on Reverb for more money and faster. No brainer, right? I've still got to go through the hassle of shipping, etc.. might as well get better results and more often than not, more money for something I'm probably losing money on already.

I'm not mad about it, it's just the way it is.

Nothing is selling anywhere worth mentioning. Plenty people trying to sell tho.

I'm out of room for more gear. I need to sell some gear to make room.

Also, I spent the last several years buying and selling gear to get what I want before I retired.

If a new EBMM Kaizen 6 or Majesty 6 comes out in a new color I like; or the next generation Roland Fantom is released or an Ibanez PS1CM in great condition for under $5K...then I'm buying.

From what I've seen any genuine deals are scooped up fast. I tried to buy a guitar, an amp and 3 pedals over the last few months that I identifies as good deals and lost all of them very quickly after they were posted.

My stuff doesn’t sell here because I don’t have 50 posts.
Me too - although I've had an account here for a long time, I haven't posted for a long time and my history got wiped or something.

There are only about 50 people here, it's not exactly the largest audience in the world. Unless you're selling at a level that can be flipped for a profit good luck.

Inflation part of the issue. Nothing is cheap anymore.
Plus a lot of job losses. Everyone’s situation is different.
Some here probably need a spare room to store gear. Others not so much.
Car market, house market all at a standstill. Music gear is more or less a luxury. Plus reverb and other places have a much bigger buying audience than rigtalk.

It all comes down to it’s only worth what someone is willing to pay for it.

The best deals will go fastest.

I never have a problem selling my stuff because when it’s time to sell it, I just sell it. I don’t really worry about nickel and diming
