Amp Build: Marshall 1959T – "Bay Area Thrash" Langner Mod

The purple plexi wasn’t the amp on ULAK or the tour, it was a Caswell modded Marshall Super Trem, rented from SIR.

How does the purple plexi relate the Lynch? I thought it was all over ULAK

The purplexi had a failed output transformer that was replaced. The amp never sounded the same after the repair though and no documentation at the time existed to rightfully fix it. I know Aspen Pittman owned it at one point and he sold it (among many other things) to start groove tubes. I also know eventually it was unfortunately parted out to never be seen again.
The amp in question was actually the mythical SIR (Studio Instrument Rentals) 70-73 Super Trem, number #39 that everyone wanted to rent/buy. Lynch rented it for the first leg of the ULAK tour. He tried to buy it, and Slash actually stole it for a time, until his roadie brought it to a rehearsal space owned by SIR...an employee spotted it and took it back.
No one know what happened to that amp.

Aspen’s early purple Marshall is all over Lynch Mob’s Wicked Sensation.
I don’t believe he used the SLO on the recording, but took it on tour.

@Racerxrated - wow congrats. I bet this thing will smoke when you get it back

@FourT6and2 - nice work as usual. Thanks for the detailed pics/explanation. Helps a noob like me :dunno:

5 gain stages? Wow! I feel all ability to play smooth jazz will be gone after such extensive mods 😪

The work looks clean though.

This is Rig-Talk not Tan Page Gay

Lynch didn’t use a Langner mod for ULAK or the tour, that was a Caswell modded Marshall
ooh thank you for the catch—-you are right and i am mixing up my modders!
heard great things about Langner too but those Caswell modded amps had tones that were the epitome of what i wanted to hear in that era and beyond.

3-Way Mid-Shift is in.
