Yeah I thought about this amp . But I don't know which will be better- 5150/6505 or 5150II/6505+. The other concern is I don't know if this amp will match my cab well.
And well I must say this - Fireball 100 ... seduce me ... noise gate , tube monitor , mid boost and this very dark sound.

I don't want anything bright or harsh. You know , V30 is bright and just add a bright amp and you will have disaster.

5150's work great with V30's. Depending on which type of influence you go for will depend on what amplifiers will work to get you closer. It sounds as though you've already decided on the amplifier you would like to go for :D

I must try this 5150/5150 II(which is better ?) first , and then I decide. At this moment If I will like FB100 , I will take it.

Between them all i prefer 5150 II's. Not as saturated as the 5150 and takes pedals both in front and in the effects loop much better. Independent pre-gains for lead and clean channels with independent resonance and presence controls as well as a separate pre-amp tube dedicated to the clean/crunch section of the preamp.

There are many benefits of the 5150 II over the 5150. One of the main reasons i sold my 5150 and 5150 block letter were because tube changes changed the overall tone of the amplifier too much between gigs. I was playing in three bands at once plus at home practices and band practices. I was eating power tubes every 3 months and preamp tubes every 6-8. The 5150 block letter and signature models changed their tone WAY too much between tube sets. Once i had a tone that i loved dialed in i would have to change it again with new tubes. It was frustrating - the tone of the amp is pre-amp gain influenced so much that it does not allow consistency.

The 5150 II held the tone differences between tube changes much better once i was able to retube it as separate channels as needed, with careful consideration between what i preferred in one channel versus the other.

that's a great rundown man.

i noticed the same...the 5150 block letter i have is really touchy with power tubes, and pre tubes.
i dont gig that much with it, so, i dont have to worry about them burning out.

but if i were to get another in the peavey line, it'd be the 6505+ for sure. just due to the 3rd channel and the modded rhythm channel.

my 5150 is modded to hell and back, and it took that to get it sounding where i wanted it.

The 5150(II) sound great with your Engl cab just enough bite and not to harsh. The question is, do you play with a band or by yourself most of the time? I heard that the new Fireball 100 solved the famous (cutting in a band mix) issue. Still i think the 5150(II) or the Savage would be a better solution for a band situation, but if you play mostly at home or at lower volume the Fireball 100 is very hard to beat. If you go Peavey you will still need a boost and a noise gate though.

I think if you want versatility the Savage or the Powerball II would be better, but if you want straight Exodus Exhibit B in a box go for the Fireball 100.

I have an engl retro for sale 1599.00 barely used... just have to many damn amps lol

I play alone , I don't need a band. I'm a band. I want to create something like Yngwie did.
So the Fireball 100 will cut through the mix well ? I've seen a few samples from YT and damn , huge sound and very dark sound which I like but without mud.

And I don't want versatility , I'm only interested in thrash/death metal.

Hmm from what I know , Gary on EB used Savage 120 not the fireball 100 ... Fireball 100 and Savage 120 = similar amps ?

From what i remember when i tried the Savage, it was more open and raw.
Fireball was more saturated and compressed.
The cutting issues was with the 60 watts version of the Fireball.

The Fireball 100 is freaking KILLER for sure for what your describing!
Had one when they 1st came out. Sold it back in my amp flipping days.

I like the Savage a lot better than the PBII. Consider the Blackmore, too. I´m not sure I´d call any of the Engls versatile, though, they always kind of have their own thing going on.

I guess that "versatile" is in the ear of the beholder. Playing and gigging as many styles as I do (country, rock, metal, fusion, etc)... I've owned some of the most versatile amps out there. The Bogner XTC and H&K Triamp were my favorites (needed a little help to get to full-on metal obviously). But then the Engl Powerball II came along and blew them away in terms of the wide range of styles it could do. Yeah... Engls have their own "growl" going on. But I've found that most good amps have their own character and I can live with that. If I want versatile and generic-homogenous, I look at rack/MIDI solutions instead of heads.

Btw... I realize that none of that pertains to the OP's needs, as he has indicated a specific interest in a killer amp for "the BROOTALZ". ;)

I've owned 2 savages (old version with bulbs as backlights and new with led backlights), a powerball 1 rev 2, SE and firebal 60. If you like the savage 120, go with a darker sounding V30 cab like a mesa cab. I had one with the Engl cab and it sounded ok, but you need to turn the treble and presence down and the bass up. The newer savage 120s are more modern sounding so it will sound ok with an engl V30 cab. Just have to play around with the eq a bit. The older savages didn't have as much low end as the new ones do now.

Guys , what do you think about Mesa Dual Recitifer (better 2 or newer - 3 channel ?)

I'm asking because used DR are extra cheap and well ... This is legendary amp.
