I'm glad to hear it did something special for you (I'm sure Dave is as well).
My second Baron is on the way, which I'm quite proud of, indeed.
I can say that Barons surprised the hell out of me as well. I bought one blindly, with an internet video clip being my only link to the amp, and I am floored. I need to do some new recordings with this beast soon.
Depends on which one you played. I've played plenty of Mark III combos that sounded like boxy muddy shit. And i had a no-stripe III head that didn't sound that great at all. But a few Blue and red stripes i either owned or played sounded really good.
Diezel Herbert and VH4. Have played several of both for enough time to know I don't like them (had 2 different VH4's for a weekend and have played 3 different Herbies, maybe 4 hours total). Like the Herbie more, but they both have a weird feel to them that I just can't get past.
Bummer too, I had such high hopes
Biggest surprise in a good way:
Blackstar HT5... GREAT little amp.
No mod SLO. I have owned 4 different SLO's and the one I got from JB with no mods was an absolute beast. None of the others were even in the same ballpark. Wish I still had that amp.
Its very hard to flame someone for liking, in my humble opinion the best Dual Recto Mesa ever made.
A little part of me cries inside when I remember my old Tverb combo and how I dont have it anymore
Still I love my Einstein!
One amp I was prepare to love that let me down was the Rivera Fandango I tried a few months back. It took me all of 5 mins to know it was not for me. Just not ballsy enough.
Yeah same here. Mine is a keeper. I am currently just using the 2X10 mini stack. I can't wait to try it with a 4X12. Mine does sound better with the Triad hitting the front in. The clean channel is the weak link but with the Triad it sounds better.
