Anderson Pickups

I use both the H2+ and the H3+. I love both for different reasons. The body wood makes a bit of a difference. I can't add much that hasn't been mentioned but I love the H3+. Hot yet articulate. It rolls off with volume knob really well. The guitar with the H3+ is a Drop Top with a mahogany body. Really tight sounding guitar (currently my #1 player). I really love the H2+ and consider it my rock guitar. It definitely is more open and seems to balance across the EQ spectrum. Definitely not as hot and cleans up very well with the volume knob. This pickup is in a Classic with an alder body. I love both guitars and couldn't be happier (unless I owned another TAG).
 
So by chance does anyone still have an Anderson p/up for sale?

HC3+ or HC3 if anyone has one....or HN3 or H3+ I guess...

Anyone tried the HC series yet? Interested in getting the black covered ones for the EMG look.
 
BTW: Is the HN3 dark "like Rio grande BBQ" or bright sounding?
 
H2+ for overall rock and metal - the H3 is a little too hot and compressed YMMV.
Had a "special" Tom p/up in my Atom - the HW2A - or handwound "2" for the Atom. FYI, Tom hates 'em.
IT is now in all of my TAG's - all 8 of them. Thick and creamy, yet sparkely enough to cut through
 
Well I should be getting my H2+ in the next few days. I can wait to compare it to the H3 for myself. Here's what it's going in. :thumbsup:

The HN3 isn't dark at all. It's the odd ball in the Anderson line imho. It's brighter than others in the line, but it's very focused in the upper-mids. I wouldn't hesitate to call it bright, but it's not piercing at all. The top end is very aggressive. Overall, the other Anderson's are darkish I guess, but I think that they're more focused in the low mids than they are dark. Smooth top end is a description that comes to mind.

Anderson's and Rio's aren't alike at all. Both are great, but different. Rio's are more raw, classic rock n' roll, whereas the Anderson's are straight up modern rock bliss. I absolutely love the BBQ in the bridge of my Paul, but I love the H2+ in my PRS too. They're two totally different beasts that do what they do in a great way.

Stunning guitar! You're gonna love the H2+. It's my favorite bridge pickup after years of trying many. :rock:

Thanks man. I found the BBQ too dark for me. Like the Super 3. I like a more overall bright side. Hard choice between it and the Aldrich.
 
I love the H2+ in my Drop Top.
I've just tried the new HF2 in my spare guitar and I much prefer the H2+.
Clear, open, non compressed and splits beautifully.
There's nothing it can't do :thumbsup:

I first tried an H3 in the bridge of my fat strat. It was too hot for my tastes. So I went with an H2+ and love it. I had a JB before the andersons and was looking for something about like that. The H2+ splits better than the JB did too.

I have had some BBQ's in the bridge of my Les Pauls and they are a totally different beast, very thick and meaty, with more growl. BBQ's could easily get too fuzzy. The H2+ in my strat is a pretty clear pickup, but has some bite.
 
Well the verdict is in. I installed my H2+ and it's definiately got my vote. :thumbsup: Much more open sounding and fits my style perfect. Thanks for the advice guys. :D
 
Looking to resurrect this thread ?

Can some of you Anderson guys help me out with pickup selection? I am specing a Cobra S And want a bridge pickup similar to my LP R0, which has a Burstucker 3 (Alnico 2, 8.4 output) overwound PAF type with a lot of bite in the top end. Its very open, not modern sounding at all.

Some have pointed to Anderson’s vintage HF1+ while others have said H2+ or H3. Any feedback is appreciated.
 
All the Anderson pickups I have tried were modern sounding. If you’re wanting a PAF sound, you will need to look elsewhere. That being said, my favorite Anderson Pickups were the H2+ and H1 combo.

Did you get a chance to try the HF series - supposedly is the vintage PAF flavor in the Anderson lineup
