Anderson Pickups

I like the H3 & H3+ so much I have them in my 4 guitars in the bridge pick up. Any time that I had a different pick up in a guitar, it just wasn't as good so I wouldn't want to use it, until I replaced the original pick with an H3 or H3+.

They're not for everyone but if you only care about full sounding, great high gain, clear as shit tone, this pick up is what you want.

Clean tone? What's that? The H3 starts at 90 mph, the H3+ @ 100, so if you need to drive 55, buy something else. Or, oh yeah, I guess that's what the neck and middle pick ups are for.

All the Anderson pickups I have tried were modern sounding. If you’re wanting a PAF sound, you will need to look elsewhere. That being said, my favorite Anderson Pickups were the H2+ and H1 combo.

This. Every Anderson pickup I've ever had was more on the modern side. I don't have any experience with their HF or HO series though, so maybe a call to Anderson would help sort things out. I had a mahogany Cobra S years ago that came with an H2+ (I think this is their most popular pickup). It's a great pickup, but I was looking for the exact thing you're describing, and the H2+ wasn't it. I tried a bunch of different Anderson pickups in it and never did find the right one. I don't think they had nearly the number of pickup options they have now though.

I just went through this with a Suhr Standard too. I've had a bunch of Suhr and other pickups in there over the years. I JUST today put a Thornbucker+ in there (I have this weird OCD thing where I like to stick to the same company if possible). Folks sometimes bag on Suhr pickups, and believe me, I've tried a few that did zero for me, but that freaking thing is THE sound I've been searching for...for years.

Not Anderson unfortunately, and if you're committed to sticking with them, totally get it.

I realize this thread was resurrected...I even bought Paul's Drop Top a year after this post and still have it!

Both my TAs have an H3 in the bridge. I've had H3+, H2+, HN3+ fwiw

Nice! That is a KILLLER Drop Top! Guessing it doesn't sound too shabby with that VH4 behind it either.

Yeah, right after I replied to Docster's thread resurrection question, I thought, "we're going to get shit for keeping this going". :D

I ordered my Drop top with an H2+, cause everyone raved about them. That thing was bright and weak. No balls. Swapped in an H3 and it's perfect.

Did you get a chance to try the HF series - supposedly is the vintage PAF flavor in the Anderson lineup

I haven’t played those. Can’t comment on those. I’d check and see what magnets they’re using on them first.
