I know I'm a little late to the party, but man I love seeing all the Kiss album post and have to get my answer in too.
It was the album Hotter than Hell by Kiss. (Purchased with my own money)
I got Kiss Alive for my 9th birthday and like others , my life was changed forever! I made money mowing lawns and would buy a Kiss album when I could and was up to date with them and bought Destroyer when it first came out (1976) and every release after that pretty much as soon as it came out. Those days were so cool. I still listen to them a lot! Dressed to Kill might be my favorite album. Or maybe Rock n Roll over or maybe Love Gun LOL

Mine was Kiss alive II...

My uncle gave me Kiss alive and it changed my life forever...lol
Actually have that album cover opened up to that "Stage scene" up on the jam room wall.
Really REALLY wish I could find that in a Poster form!

I had a lot of albums that were given to me at a young age but this was the first one I bought with my own money. :-)

I believe mine was Alice Cooper. - Billion Dollar Babies

Buxton RIP was a cool lead player. And that album was just outrageous back then. Total anarchy in the eyes of the world. Rebellion on vinyl.

I know KISS was right there too. I got Strutter out of a juke box as a free 45. A friend worked for a juke box company and I got that 45 and became a quick KISS fan.

Great Thread!

Curly cords FTW.

kiss alive II LP still have it w/ functioning record player

First I remember buying myself is Kiss Crazy Nights

Damn

Some young as well as old people in here

KISS Alive 1

My first concert. It was amazing. Then saw Destoyer the next year. I knew they would change rock and roll but it is awesome to see it.

And oh yeah, I did Gene Simmons for Halloween and did the fire breathing with cheap lighter fluid. Got kicked out of the Halloween party at the middle school. They seemed to totally freak about breathing fire inside the hallway of the school

Go figure

Cheap Trick at Budokan - I was either 12 or 13 and we were in Houston so 1978 or 79. Well shit, that's closing in on 40 years ago!

I was pretty fortunate as a kid. Just about every member of my either played an instrument or sang. Both of my Bros were nearly ten years older than me, and both played guitar. Between them, they had an album collection that put most record shops to shame. We spent a few years living in Germany, so that had shit you couldn't get over here. They were real cool about sharing all of that with me. I could go back to there room and spin a record or tinker with a guitar anytime I wanted. The first LP I can remember buying was the first Dire Straights.
I remember my older brother turning me on to 2112 when it came out. I liked it, but didn't pay much attention at the time, as I was listening to a lot of other cool stuff. A couple of years later I came across it in the collection and gave it another listen. At the time I was more into listening to music, but I knew some chords, and how to fret some notes. Passage to Bangkok just blew my shit away on that second listen. I reached over and grabbed a guitar, and spent the rest of the day figuring out, then playing the main riff. There was no putting it down after that.

Journey Frontiers was the fist album I bought. It was a cassette. Great album! First vinyl was later & it was an old Peter Frampton Where I Should Be album in a Thrift store. Still have it. As for CD, to be honest, I can't even remember my first CD, because I mostly bought tapes. What can I say I was cheap!

Back to the Metal show theme.
What was the first tape...album....cd...you bought with your own cash.

Me? It was Peter Criss Solo album. Saved my B-Day money. Think I was 8 years old.

And you? ;)
I'm disappointed you guys can remember your first record. ;)

Could've been KISS ALIVE or this huge disappointment :
I was in 5th or 6th grade and thought "what a cool band name and album cover: dark eerie foreboding skeleton...this must be some great rock metal. I'll buy it with what little money I have."

 I remember getting home, putting it on the record player and sitting there in disbelief and sadness.

Ouch that does suck balls.

I thought I had it bad when I was pointed at the Grim Reaper "See You In Hell" album by an acquaintance who worked in a record store and should have fucking known better. The dude had seen me buy Bark at the Moon, Holy Diver, Piece of Mind, Headhunter, Balls to the Wall, and Shout at the Devil - I look back on it now and I'm like "Dooooood-ahh! Why couldn't you have pointed me at Kill 'em All instead or even Show No Mercy!!"

Def Leppard Pyromania. Walked to K-Mart and bought it with my own cash.
