As if UPS doesn't annoy you enough, I noticed a new thing this week. On Wednesday, the truck stopped at my neighbors and the driver dragged a small refrigerator off the truck and just left it in the middle of the driveway. So, I went over there and dragged it up to the house since hes an elderly guy. He opened the garage and thats where I left it. Yesterday(Friday) I had a small package dropped off and low and behold the package made it closer to the house, but nowhere near the front step.

I tried to contact UPS and voice my concern, however I was trapped in automated phone system purgatory. Not sure I want anything shipped to me by them anymore if this is there thing. I'm not overly concerned about theft in my neighbor, but it happens. My biggest problem is it seems like a really lazy way of doing business, at least get the shit on the front step.

So, why in the world would this driver do this? I assume its OK with the company, but seems like a bad I idea with regards to package theft. Why not just throw it on the curb to advertise it to the entire neighborhood and make it easier to swipe? Has anyone else noticed this? Is it a lazy driver, a covid social distancing thing with the added benefit of being a self fulfilling prophecy(since stolen packages will probably to shipped again, thus UPS delivers another package)? Anyone see this from other shipping companies?

I wonder if they have given them new guidance on staying a good distance away due to the virus?

If not that, you could order something relatively cheap that has to be signed for and then ask the driver. Or go to one of the UPS depots and find out which driver does that route and then explain to them what is going on.

I concern has more to do with the idea of just leaving stuff laying around the driveway for the world to see and grab. Curious if anyone else has noticed this?

I have noticed with both fedex and ups even if the package is suppose to be signed for they just leave it at the door.

This. Total bullshit move on their part. If you request a signature, they should get it. End of story.

I am pretty sure FedEx, UPS, USPS and others have all deferred the requirement for a signature even if paid for by the shipper.(I do not think you can order signature during this time)

As USPS mail carrier. I bring every parcel to the door. Knock. Wait. Then every house has a place that you can ‘hide’ where walking by people can’t see it. Leaving it in the driveway is not acceptable. :LO

I would just report it as not delivered...then if/when they contact you tell them you found it but nowhere near it should be. I doubt it would do a damn thing tho.

Yes, or at least ring a doorbell, etc. and just make sure the person is actually there.

I just sold an amp for $2900. I saw on the web-site when preparing the label that they were suspending the direct signature. It's automatic with the declared value over $500. Anyway, I asked the buyer how they delivered it as the proof of signature had his name followed by virus. He said the FedEx guy rang the bell and waited for him to come to the door then signed for him after confirming receipt. I was worried they were just going to leave the amp on the porch if noone was home though. I don't think they are doing that. At least in my experience with that and another $1000 package I shipped out to CA.

There is a reason that there have been videos for years showing UPS/FedEx/USPS drivers getting kind of close to porches and just tossing the box. Had a company laptop arrive a few years ago and I saw the driver with the box clearly marked with Lenovo, fragile, and do not drop just toss it up onto the porch from about 6 feet away. The box bounced and then fell off of the other side of the porch. No F's given.

I agree with you, which is why I think I was annoyed by the behavior. I'm sure a delivery driver make tons of stops a day, but are ya really saving yourself any time doing this? Also, they are paid by the hour, not the stop.

I have an incoming Framus. CA to FL cross country kinda worried, but everything goes to my box at my UPS store and they know me VERY well so at least I know it will be safely received.
