This weeks Axe Fx tips and tricks video is out.
The second weekly video about Axe Fx tips and tricks. In this video we will go true how to use a modulated delay with any effect of your choice.

Long time user here. Started with the Ultra moved to the Axe Fx2 and now I have the Axe8

The Axe is freaking fantastic for recording but sort of meh for live use with my Matrix amp and Port City cabs. I am going to give it a few more tries before I pass final judgement.

I may add the FX8 and go with one of the mini heads if I can find one I like. I'm not seeing many out there though that has a good as clean channel as my Vox AC30. It sure beats carrying around the AC-30 though!

Can you turn off the amps and just use the effects like a FX8?

That's how I use my AX8 a lot. In 4CM for just all the effects, no cab sims and no amp sims. The AX8 is great but I feel the need to hang onto my Mesa Mark IV. When nobody is home it gets fired up.

I had one and replaced my whole rig with it and really liked it, but then it was stolen from my vehicle. I went back to tube amps and pedals and haven't looked back, there's just something about the real thing. Even with the axe FX I always found myself going to the same amp models which were what I was rocking before I got it in the first place

I only use around three amp models in the Axe Fx. One of the amp models are 80-90 % of what I use for my sounds. So you don't have to use a new amp for every new preset you will make. I think that some people describe a let down of the Axe Fx because it couldn't solve world peace ;-). If you look at what it can do and how small rig you can get by using it. It's an incredible unit. But not all people are going to have any benefits to what it can do so if you use just one sound and not a lot of effects you shouldn't buy an Axe Fx. Me on the other hand that had two rack effects and a big amp head. I can't see how I could live without it. Just loosing all the cables that I had between all my gear was a relief :-)

i would love an axe but it's just to complicated. i'm using a pod hd500 for my church gig and it works great for what i need. hell-i get frustrated with the hd500 at times-i would probably pull my hair out with an axe.

If you are happy with what you got than just be good with that. Axe Fx is not for everybody. In a way you can use like you want to use it. You don't have to make a lot of adjustment if you don't want to...

I've been using the Axe Fx II for about a month now. I still can't figure out how to program the expression pedals (wah and volume) through my Rocktron Midi Raider and it's starting to piss me off. I'm still using real cabs (two 4x12s in stereo), but am thinking about going frfr once I figure out these fucking pedals. I only use a few amp models, but at different settings for about 8 presets.

I still have my Voodoo modded DSL. I can't see me selling that off any time soon.

I can help you with this. What seams to be the problem. What have you tried so far?

I have made a video series about Midi for guitars. Check it out here.

Maybe it can help you. If not just let me know and we will sort it out...

I'll have to check out your vids. I actually placed an ad on craigslist asking for help.  I'm not new to midi and I was able to set up expression pedals in my TC G System pretty easily (because the control changes were all preset from the factory), but there's just so much going on with the fractal. Plus I'm using the Raider's exp jacks. There's just too much shit I don't understand...I'm such a maroon. I may take you up on your offer once I get a better grasp on this.

I have helped other people before with midi so we can work this one out. But there is a lot of good info in my videos. If you go true them you might find the solution with your problem...

Honestly, I messed with the HD500 WAY more than the Axe-FX II. The HD500 always sounded "off", so I was always trying to fix the tone. The Axe-FX II just sounds better on stock settings, so even though there are way more controls, I find myself just playing with them for tone variation.... instead of trying to turn a shit tone into something usable.....

Typically it is a 2-step process. You have to define which CC# in the I/O menu. That is global for all presets. Then in your actual preset, you define a modifier to the parameter you want to control, where you chose the I/O value you selected in part 1 of this sentence.

There is also a "Learn" mode in the I/O menu. Press I/O and then scroll to the CTRL tab. Scroll down to Ext Ctrl 1 if you are not using that one. If you do, just choose Ext Ctrl 2 or Ext Ctrl 3. When you are over with marker at the Ext Ctrl you want to use then hit the Enter button. Now it will say Learning. Now you just move your expression pedal. And it will display the CC number that the expression pedal is sending. If the pedal is sending on the same midi channel as the Axe Fx is set to.

So all you need to do now is to use that Ext Ctrl that is signed to your expression pedal when you choose what it is going to control. So in the Axe Edit you just add a wha block and then in the wha block you right click over the control wheel. As source you select the Ext Ctrl that you used...
