I'm a huge fanboy..
This dropped about a week ago, and the new album is released next month..

It still has some of that 70’s prog style and production they’ve been into, but it seems to blend in a little more of the older sound too. I dig it.

That lead is killer. It sort of reminds me of something you’d hear on Rust In Peace. Fredrik has such an awesome feel. He’s become one of my favorite metal lead players.

another band that set the standard so high for themselves... those first 6 albums are flawless. the 3 after that were pretty damn close to flawless... a few snoozy moments, but over all pretty solid. After that, it seems like nothing is particularly memorable. a lot of the same melody styles... that harmonic minor sounding shit with odd time signatures, and plenty of twists and turns in the songwriting. Idk... maybe i'm just stubborn, but nothing they put out anymore gets me particularly excited anymore. :aww:

at least they didn't get totally awful like In flames did after their first 6 records or so.
if you played me 30 of the last in flames songs, it would sound like the exact same song over and over to me.

I'm really diggin' the new track and makes me hopeful for a great album!

I like both versions of this track. Hope the rest of the album is similar.

I wish Mikael would bust out some growls from time to time. I can think of a few places in the new stuff where they'd fit.

Cool, digging it! I used to just buy their albums without thinking about it, but Heritage made me think twice and preview everything before I get it. I loved everything start to finish up until Ghost Reveries, then Watershed was just ok, then everything seemed more hit or miss after Heritage. Live his growls aren't the same anymore either, maybe they did his voice in? Either way hope it's a killer album, having new Opeth and Tool in the same year would give me my prog fix for a while :) Cheers!

Watershed was killer!

Thats more like it

The mellow part starting at 6:00 min is very similar to something I wrote years ago. Of course the Opeth version is fully realized and better than the primitive piece I did but the melody is basically the same. Hows that for an utterly useless bit of trivia ?

THIS on both counts. I dig this track though. I'll grab this for sure.

They were brilliant through Ghost Reveries. After that, I kinda lost interest.

My thoughts exactly.

Late to the party here... but I dig the hell out of this song and album. I'm an Opeth heretic, because I dig the last several albums far more than the earlier growly stuff. I also prefer post Roger Waters Pink Floyd... so yeah, I like things that aren't cool to the critics and purists.

i love Opeth. they were really good live, dude seems like a hoot to hand out with.

Idk what my problem is I too often forget about Opeth. Thanks for sharing! I'm also in the camp of liking their later stuff much more than the earlier albums. They have such a funky tight metal groove. MORE RIDE BELL!

I only have the Swedish version. Like the first few songs, but not crazy about the rest. Keyboards displacing the guitars too much.
