Any Fractal VP4 Guinea Pigs?

I remember the fx8 did mess with things, i am pretty sensitive to the feel and sound when adding pedals (im a bit ocd). Im not noticing anything on the vp4, and if there is anything it’s still probably the best of anything i have tried at this point.

I am super picky about this also, especially how the dynamics of the bass change when ringing out huge chugs. I notice a lot of digital conversions tend to smear the bass, I generally look for analog dry through.

VP4 has my attention but so does the TC Plethora x 5. Wish i could try them out before buying

i have both, VP4 for the win. Just put the Morningstar MC6 Pro on my board to handle some midi switching. Makes the VP4 even better! and i can integrate my old trusty H9.

So the midi built in can't be assigned to functions such as amp channel switching? Just wondering why you needed an external pedal.

I’ll be grabbing one. I’m already a Fractal fan and it was inevitable, I was just waiting for a need to pop up. I’ve been building a non-modeling pedalboard this last year and just about wrapped up with it. I initially just wanted pedals that did one thing each, but when looking at the cost of the remaining pedals to buy, what they do and how much more I’d get out of the VP4, I decided to say fuck it and go with the VP4.

IE- My lead/clean tones use a dual delay into a reverb in parallel, that end up feeding a reverse delay at the very end of my chain. It’d cost me about the same amount of money to buy individual pedals to pull that off as it would buying a VP4 where I’ll get a ton of other options.

I briefly considered selling my FM9 and just grabbing both the VP4 and AM4, but something is telling me not to get rid of the FM9 just yet.

so each bank can have 4 presets, and each effect in that preset can have 4 variations of the same type of effect. To complicate further, you can have independent scenes for each preset.

To simplify my switching (because in some instance it would require multiple taps of multiple footswitches), i use midi to go directly to a patch i've built with a specific purpose. In some examples, i can now go from 3-4 buttons down to 1. And I can still keep the VP4 in effects mode to toggle independent effects if desired. I do that a lot on patches where i'm running a tremolo or phaser.

It is COMPLETELY functorial without the midi controller and i've used it for the last 6 months live without it with zero issue other than i occasionally have to tap dance a bit. The midi controller just makes my life a little easier for the way I use it.

The only modeler I've ever had was the Boss GT100. I am always drawn to modelers. I always read the threads and watch the vids over the past 10 years. Yet I never buy one. It's because I don't play out so I can't justify buying one! However this one really is making my fingers itchy to buy one

what do you like about it over the h90? I have one and I like it, but I'm not over the moon with it. Primary use is delay and reverb. If it could ape the blackhole algorithm I'd consider switching.
Mainly the ease of use, as well as being able to keep my board super simple. Less cables is always better. I did not love editing on the h90 itself (better than the h9) and the fractal gives me 4 effects and a gate. I am literally running the vp4 with an expression pedal, a digitech drop pedal for tunings (yes the vp4 can do it but i had the pedal and would rather not give up a block for that) and a suhr mico midi so i can channel switch any of my amps.

I had the Plethora. Effects sound good but there is basically no ability to program anything. No channels, presets or anything like that. It's basically a dumb pedal board. If your cool with that they sound good. Also It's pretty much a dead product. Last update was in 2020. Hope this helps your decision.

Does this have decent presets? Something where I can just set the Mix level and play?
I don't like sitting in front of programmable stuff. I have no patience!

This unit would kick ass w/ my Soldano X88ir setup.

Some decent presets in it, but it is super easy to setup and tweek.

Been really enjoying mine. They allow enough editing on the screen directly without having to deep dive (which you can via the editor on the computer). Very flexible and the FX are fantastic. Been very happy so far.

I actually bought one 3-4 weeks ago but the fucking cunt on Reverb I bought it from never shipped it. I asked for updates daily until filing a claim with Reverb, dude never even got the carrier acceptance confirmation and I’m still having to wait for Reverb to get the funds returned. I should have had the fucking pedal by now.

I don’t even think the seller was trying to rip me off, they’ve got over 9500 5-star reviews on Reverb and this is obviously their business, but dude completely dropped the ball when it came to resolving the issue and I can’t say I’m very pleased having $700 floating around for this amount of time.

I have 2 of the Plethora X1s that I really like. You can tweak the settings in the app and load up any 8 sounds from any pedal in the Toneprint series. Sadly no way to switch them though other than turning the knob. They are great chameleon pedals. Totally different use though from a VP4.

No doubt they sound good. X3 and X5 could have been an awesome pedal if TC didn't treat it like a reheaded stepchild.

I would be more interested if the X3 or X5 was analog dry-through like the X1. Or even allowed parallel routing.

Yeah, I love the sound of TC stuff, but product support hasn't been their strong point since being bought by Behringer.

I still have my HX-Effects, but I use my Boss GX-100 for effects more these days; if you don't need all the footswitches, the GX-10 could be a good option.

I like the integrated expression pedal; touchscreen; flexibility and size. That said, I got it on sale, before the VP4 was released IIRC...also it was about half the price ($499) of the VP4. I'd probably go VP4 today if I was looking for a MFX since they're nearly the same price new today.

I’ve had the HX stomp, VP4, and the h9 max. The VP4 is in its own class relative to the other two in my view. I think the modulations in the Fractal are light years better than the Line6 and most of them are better than the H9. The reverbs and pitch are more subjective between the Eventide and the Fractal.
