HX Effects is great too, but VP4 might be overkill if you don’t need tons of blocks.
I read through the thread and didn't notice that many people mentioned if they were using this in front of their rig, in the EFX Loop or 4CM
I'm guessing most people are just using it up front??
I'm hoping to use it via 4CM in the near future, anyone else using it this way???
AFAIK, the VP4 doesn't have an analog dry-through even if all effects are off; again not a deal breaker.
good to know; even better now! That is not true. When all FX blocks are bypassed a physical relay kicks in (you can hear it) and your signal is 100% analog bypassed.

I miss my FX8. I have the VP4 and yes there's a larger effects library, and the unit has more processing power, but that's about it. You lose the stereo outs, relay switching, and all the extra footswtiches. The effects are glorious, but I can't say the VP4 is that much better, if any.Yeah, it’s a shame this doesn’t do channel switching with 1/4” jacks. I’m still using the FX8. How much of an upgrade would the VP4 be minus the channel switching?
I am also using the Suhr Micro MIDI.I'm using mine 4CM here. It's feeding midi to a Suhr midicontrol to do the channel switching on my amps. I don't really need to use it 4CM, but It's come in handy a couple times. You can also set it up so that each preset has a different number of blocks in front/loop.

A VP8 would be the logical progression from FX8 IMO.
