Great amp. It sounds great with both EL34s and 6L6s. It sounds quite unique with the EL34s. You can hear the British influence, but it's not quite Marshall. It's its own beast. With 6L6s it gets a little closer to Rectifier territory in the high gain channel, and maybe Fenderish in the clean channel. Still not quite like those tones but it sounds more familiar that way. In either case it's fantastic.
It's very versatile; I can't think of a genre you couldn't pull off well with it. I have tried it with horizontal and vertical Recto cabs (stock) and while it's great either way, I prefer it with the vertical. The TC-50 is also super simple to dial in. I love that each channel has its own master volume and then there's the amp's overall output knob. It makes it easy to volume match the channels. All those volume knobs have exceptional tapers as well, so there are no big volume jumps to deal with.
It's easy to control via MIDI. The loop is not 100% transparent, but it's very solid. There's a small tone difference with it on, but it's not detrimental. Metal players will find benefit from an OD in front (I have a Precision Drive; it's great but I do have to dial the treble back). I tried an MXR 6-band EQ in the loop and think that's a great addition as well, though it's not necessary.
