I will happily ship a Colossus H-100 demo amp to anyone (in the USA to keep things simple) who owns or has access to both amps. I'd love to get an opinion as to how my beast stacks up. Personally, I think it will be almost of a blend between the two, a happy medium if you will. The Colossus definitely does metal, but it can also do 80s rock. Plus, 12 MIDI/foot/front panel switchable functions, on-the-fly channel mode options, and the kitchen sink for good measure.
FWIW, at the recent HRI hang in Chicago we did an A/B/Y with a Herbert and Colossus. It was an epic combination -- the Herbert is much more scooped metal sounding and the Colossus is almost tighter, aggressive, and more full with mids. The bottom end of both is huge, and the combo moved an epic amount of air.
Anyone up for it?![]()
I meet none of the of the criteria, I have neither a CCV or Herbert and live in Canada but would LOVE for you to send me the Colossus![]()
I tell ya what, send me $3,250 USD (direct artist cost) and we have a deal.![]()
From looking at your chassis shots and Jason and Andy's thoughts on the amp that seems like a good price.
What is the breakdown of materials? custom Iron? Chassis material?
I'd put Kyle's build quality up there with any amp I have ever owned. The Colossus he sent me took a hit at some point during shipping which actually separated the head shell a bit but the amp never even hiccuped. For an amp as advanced as his that is a big deal, IMO.
As far as the CCV, Herbert, or Colossus comparison goes...the Colossus definitely is closer to a Herbert in sound in my opinion. Not the same but similar. I prefer the Colossus over the Herbert that I owned. I think Kyle is right when he says the Colossus has attributes of both amps. It leans a little more to the Herbert but has some nice saturation like a CCV if you want it. The Herbert's low mids and out of control amount of bass really make it more of a modern sounding amp and not much of an 80s hard rock thing, IMO.
