I couldn't resist chiming in here with a shameless self-promotion. I will happily ship a Colossus H-100 demo amp to anyone (in the USA to keep things simple) who owns or has access to both amps. I'd love to get an opinion as to how my beast stacks up. Personally, I think it will be almost of a blend between the two, a happy medium if you will. The Colossus definitely does metal, but it can also do 80s rock. Plus, 12 MIDI/foot/front panel switchable functions, on-the-fly channel mode options, and the kitchen sink for good measure. :)

FWIW, at the recent HRI hang in Chicago we did an A/B/Y with a Herbert and Colossus. It was an epic combination -- the Herbert is much more scooped metal sounding and the Colossus is almost tighter, aggressive, and more full with mids. The bottom end of both is huge, and the combo moved an epic amount of air.

Anyone up for it?

I meet none of the of the criteria, I have neither a CCV or Herbert and live in Canada but would LOVE for you to send me the Colossus :D

I tell ya what, send me $3,250 USD (direct artist cost) and we have a deal. :D

From looking at your chassis shots and Jason and Andy's thoughts on the amp that seems like a good price.

What is the breakdown of materials? custom Iron? Chassis material?

I'd put Kyle's build quality up there with any amp I have ever owned. The Colossus he sent me took a hit at some point during shipping which actually separated the head shell a bit but the amp never even hiccuped. For an amp as advanced as his that is a big deal, IMO.

As far as the CCV, Herbert, or Colossus comparison goes...the Colossus definitely is closer to a Herbert in sound in my opinion. Not the same but similar. I prefer the Colossus over the Herbert that I owned. I think Kyle is right when he says the Colossus has attributes of both amps. It leans a little more to the Herbert but has some nice saturation like a CCV if you want it. The Herbert's low mids and out of control amount of bass really make it more of a modern sounding amp and not much of an 80s hard rock thing, IMO.

Damn, from the sounds of this I would love the Colossus.

Only one way to find out! :) When the demo amp makes it's way to NY and NJ it could easily head up to CT for some time with you....

That could be really interesting! The gain structures are definitely different, however the Colossus has an excellent percussive attack and tight low end. Michigan could happen soon too...

let me know when your ready!

both killer amps, and like mentioned already, very different sounding. I was surprised how close you can dial them though if you are trying. The Herbert can get a bit more immediate and modern sounding IMO, while the CCV just has a sick mid grind that I haven't heard in another amp. Both amps have a really great feel to them, where you're not fighting the amp, and both will run the whole gamut of tones, clean to mean. I preferred the Herbert's clean and metal tones, and the CCV's mid gain and hard rock/80's tones, but that's not to say either was lacking. I really liked the metal tones on the CCV, and I also really like the hairmetal tones I can get out of the Herbert. That thing can get a sick mid grind too. I ended up selling my CCV, but not because I didn't love it. I needed cash, and it was the easiest amp to sell and get the most loot for. That thing was sold before I even decided I was selling it, I had several unsolicited cash offers before I had any intention of moving it.

TBH, the amp I'm still really curious about is the CCM. I'm excited Brad is going to include it in the lineup eventually, I think that's the amp Mark had in mind to go head to head with the Herbert. I had a downpayment on one way back when the first Cameron line was announced. I was lucky to get my loot back, but it's been a bug in my ass since I heard those first Cameron NAMM vids.

Thanks for the offer but I am set with amps plus I would rather cure acne with a blow torch than ship amps for fun

I am sure I will run into one soon

i've played both, way more time driving herberts than ccv, and even though the herbie is way more flexible from pristine clean to atom bomb crunch, i lean toward the browner british chomp/modded marshall of mark's tones, over peter's tighter precision and modern design.

i set up my friend's herbert rig for wet/dry, and chased the brown thing with it. it just didn't seem voiced to do it. nor was i feeling a srv vibe from it on the bluesier side. it wanted to be modern and tighter through and through.

the amps are totally different in nature sonically.

I don't have a Herbert, but I do have a CCV. I can make a YouTube video of yours. I post videos under psychodavee.

Sending you a PM now. BTW, Great playing on your videos!

Let me know if that amp makes its way to Cali. I'd love to check it out next to some of Mark's stuff.

Hi Josh, there's a good chance it will be heading to LA after the Dallas guitar show. PMing you now.
