I'm on month 8 of trumpet/cornet/flugelhorn. It's improving my ears and is a nice break from many hours of guitar every day. Hoping to one day be able to rip some jazz leads on my Conn (many years away right now, lol).

I think a 2nd instrument does a player good. I was gonna pick up Chromatic harmonica but all those scale forms plus blow/draw memorization....too much headache. I figured a woodwind/brasswind would give me motivation to not smoke cigs anymore. I played a little alto/tenor sax during college but didn't take it seriously enough. Trumpet works good as a side instrument because you can't just jump in and put 3 hours a day into it. You gotta build embouchure strength.

Anybody?

I played trumpet and trombone for years. Got really sick of the trombone. Trumpet I might come back to at some point but I'd need a new horn or a major rebuild on mine.

I can play piano but my technique is shit.

I don't think bass really counts but I can play standup OK too.

I always wanted to learn one of the wind instruments. I spent some time at a few factories in Germany that made a lot of components. Was very cool to see the old school methods.

Student model horns are pretty affordable. The older Yamaha japanese student trumpets are starting to fetch a few bucks. The newer ones are chinese. I got a couple old Conns, a '65 22b Victor my son lets me use since he loves his bugles and french horn, and a '53 12a cornet. The cornet needs a special taper short shank mouthpiece so it doesn't play as well as it should but I suck anyhow so it doesn't really matter yet, lol.

A 10a artist is pretty much my dream horn for the day I have the chops to justify it.

Triangle jokes aside, I actually was a drummer in quite a few bands before I eventually moved to guitar. I always liked the way guitar sounded, but wished the guitarist would play the stuff I wanted. So I just replaced them with me

I need to go look and refresh my memory who made mine. It's a family heirloom from the very late 19th century. The manufacturer was some small shop in New England. It's a pretty decent horn if you want to be heard clearly. It has zero chill though.

But it needs a refurb.

Ive dabbled with drums over the years, but have only started getting somewhat serious about it these past 6-7 months and its coming along pretty well I think.. im having a blast with them.

Conn and a few other brands go back that far. A lot of horns are wall hangers just cause of the cost of a good tech to do the work. If it was put up wet and wasn't kept oiled the valves are probably froze tight. Seems like in a lot of cases unless it has sentimental worth it's just less money and hassle to grab a new horn. Wes Lee music on youtube does some pretty cool videos on horn repair.

I took viola lessons briefly as a kid and actually loved it, but didn't continue.
I've sung in multiple choirs.
I took some private piano lessons in high school and I've taken piano 101 (not actually called this, but beginner piano) a few times at different universities, but didn't stick with the programs.
I've owned multiple drum sets in the past and really love playing the drums, though I suck.
I can play more than root notes on the bass.
I've always wanted to learn how play a horn of some sort: trumpet or trombone would be cool.

I attest that if you give me enough time with an instrument, I'll make music with it.

I've seen his videos. It is sentimental, and that's who I was thinking of sending it to. I think all three valves come out but there's lots of other issues.

Yes, In addition to guitar, bass and all manner of other strings, I play piano, drums, harmonica and trumpet.

I haven't watched any of his vids the past couple months but I do recall him saying he wasn't taking work from out of town. I think he is that busy. There are plenty of other guys out there if you are trying to bring it back up to like new condition. Don't quote me but I wanna say I think full rebuilds plus re-plating can run upwards of 1500-2k on the high end if you are having it brought to factory new condition. At least your valves aren't stuck, that's def a good start.

I can keep a basic tempo on drums but wouldn't consider myself anything close to a real drummer.

I play the hammered dulcimer, but it's been a while since I've really messed with it. There's a lot of rust and dust I'd need to knock off.
