Anybody here play a 2nd instrument?

I can keep a basic tempo on drums but wouldn't consider myself anything close to a real drummer.

I play the hammered dulcimer, but it's been a while since I've really messed with it. There's a lot of rust and dust I'd need to knock off.
I can play a straight four on the floor on the drums but never really got into them. Surprised to hear you say that about the dulcimer....would've never guessed. It's a cool instrument.

I been looking at laouto's and ouds....they are pretty neat. A lifetime, and my wallet, only allows for getting decent at so many instruments though. You can barely give away a cornet in this country so it was a low cost of entry....$150 for a vintage working conn with 2 mouthpieces....

I've always wanted to give the lute and mandolin a shot but never got around to it. Like you said the wallet can only afford so much to just dick around with.

I did give the bagpipes a try. I bought a practice chanter which are pretty cheap. I was able to learn the bagpipe solo for AC/DC It's a long way to the top. In the end I just didn't have the lung capacity for wind instruments.

I've never tried the bagpipes. I didn't think I'd have the lungs for a wind instrument either but it's really more about controlling the wind you do have i.e air/breath support. I can blow a longer tone through a contrabass bugle than my 23 year old son. I smoked longer than he's been alive. But he smokes me on a regular trumpet or 2 valve soprano bugle...

I dabbled in didgeridoo too, but never went pro.

Does Vuvuzela count?

I started on trumpet and then baritone and ensemble percussion and drum set. Picked up a bass on the side along the way for several years before playing guitar. Played piano for several years while earning my music degree. Shoulda also mentioned I trained in vocals and still do those. Primarily play guitar and bass now.

Assuming bass doesn't count, no not right now.

Grew up playing piano and trumpet though. Think about picking up a keyboard all the time, but in my limited spare time (kids) I'd rather put it towards just playing guitar (which is also hindering my pedal building interesting).

Also every year I consider picking up a set of harmonicas, but same issue with time and having to learn from scratch.

Skin flute. JK

I wish I had knowledge of chords on keys.
I've always dabbled with keyboards, synths.
I can make interesting sounds, soundscapes, but have no clue what I'm actually doing.
I feel I'd be way more effective at realizing the ideas in my head if I knew the chords on the keyboard, and the technical side of synth stuff.

I started playing trumpet in the 7th grade… the same year I started playing guitar. It’s how I met my bass player (tuba), my other guitar player (trumpet) and drummer (snare).

We’ve been a band 30+ years
