Anybody know about Mesa Rectifier amps?

SD-1 clips asymmetrically, so it's a little edgier. Just thinking it'd cut better than whatever you're using now, since you said it was muddy. 808 is a good pedal; I'd call it smoother than the SD. On you though...either is going to get you better tones than you're hating on.

Wish I had more experience with these pedals. I had a TS in the past I used, or tried to to get some more gain out of an amp and thought it sounded like shit, but I understand the need to boost with this thing and not necessarily add gain.

Mesa should have put an eq section in this amp. I don't know who the hell EQ'd the thing, but they shouldn't work in the amp business IMO. Of course, threre's a great probability I have no idea what I'm doing

When it was designed everyone was using thin-necked Superstrats with Floyd Roses, tiny strings and overwound ceramic pickups. The low end helped fill those guitars out.

Plug an EMG 81 into a Recto and there's no need to use an OD to emphasize the pick attack.

I was playing a Gibson "The Paul" with EMG's in it because that's what Metallica was using.

Through my Bandit 65 and my DOD SUPRA Distortion. I didn't even know what a tube amp was at the time.

I can't agree with that completely, EMG's or not, I've never seen an amp respond to a boost as well as a Recto, other than maybe a framus Cobra. I personally always run an OD into my Rectos.

I'd say clear out the JJ's from V1 through V4 but leave one in V5

Throw a EH 12AX7 in V1 and Shuguang 12AX7B's in V2 through V4, the best combo for aggression, clarity and tightness without going NOS

Watching the vids, seems like a tad too much high end, which I didn't notice when recording as I was sitting between the 2 2x12's
3:00 minute mark is with the EQ on. 7:15 is the orange channel. It sounds good in person. Video sound like sheet

They are a pretty unique sound..... Nothing really sounds like them. Not a bad idea to go thru the manual (it can be downloaded on the Mesa site). The manual is actually very good.

Don't worry about the revisions etc. Everyone goes on about the earlier ones being the holy grail etc but they're not really. They're made out to be a big deal because they're rare but tone is of course subjective.

They're definitely brighter and tighter but if you actually wan't a Recto tone then a regular G version is what you want, they're the classic Recto tone. The only downside is the crap effects loop.

Just noticed this but the serial info is not there.

The First 220/240 Dual Rectifier released are Rev-C.
Then Rev-D until S/N : 506* which is Rev-E and after 602* until 2500 is Rev-F.

After S/N : 2500 became all Rev-G until 2000 wich is the year of the 3 channel Dual Rectifier.

Note : the Trem-O-Verb Is Based upon the Rev-G

It does not matter if it is Dual, Triple, Rack or Tremoverb, etc.
This is the serial numbers for all of them.

I understand everyone has their favorites but I wouldn't look past the single rec or rectoverb. I have a rectoverb 50 and I think they are great sounding amps. Very cheap used as well.

I realize this is an old thread and my particular post is worthless but I just wanted to say +311
