He'd rather pay for the ridiculous backline and all the labor, than find a vocalist. Reminds me of Robin Trower. Tours with cheap backup band.

Yngwie is just such a character. There's really no other Yngwie. Love him or hate him, you gotta give him credit for his innovation and influence on such a huge number of really fantastic bands and players over the years. He's one of the biggest douche bags in music but he has always remained consistent in his playing. If he came to my town, I would go see him in a heartbeat even if I am not really a huge fan.

I've seen Maiden before (and loved them), so I was bummed about missing my guitar idol and not even knowing that he was in town.
Fast-forward to this year... the wife and I will be in Vegas in two weeks, when Yngwie is playing the HoB. We bought tickets and the pre-paid front-of-the-line dinner package for the HoB. So after all of these years... I'm finally gonna get to see the man. I always wear ear plugs to concerts, but this thread has been a good reminder for me not to forget them. I'll especially make sure that my wife has them... as her favorite musician is Jimmy Buffett... so Yngwie is REALLY gonna be a bit much for her!
But to her credit, she and I saw Satriani in 2008 at the same HoB and stood 5 feet in front of him all night and she enjoyed the hell out of that show and has thought very highly of Satch ever since. So at least she's been exposed to a night of guitar shredding before and loved it.

He announced the show in Tucson long before he decided to add Phoenix. I think a lot of folks in Phoenix bought tix for the Tucson show, but won't go now, since he'll be in Phoenix the next night. Kinda thinking of snagging cheap tix on CL and heading down there. I saw him signing autographs at NAMM a few years ago, but haven't seen play live in almost 20 yrs. H
BTW, does he really make any money touring in the US, or is it all coming from his shows in Europe and Japan. I can't see him getting rich from album sales.

Money for album sales is pretty much history for everyone. Live shows and sell T-shirts is how musicians make money for many years now.
Basically being a musician really means traveling T-shirt salesman.

Concert tickets (and other paid public appearances), T-shirts and endorsements generally are what pay the bills these days for music artists. Different world than it used to be. In some ways good (in that artists have more freedom to be themselves and less record company execs shoving their agenda down the "paid monkeys" throats). But bad in that the artists seem to see less financial reward from their recorded output.

When I was getting my amp fixed a couple of months ago the tech showed me some of the amps Yngwie just dropped off to get checked.He lives local to me.Here are some pics of them.I was touching them to see if any talent would rub off on me....The answer is no(lol).It was a very cool thing to see...

Definitely worth going if you are a fan. I saw him a few weeks back in New Jersey and it was one of the better YJM shows of the last couple of years. Less clowning around and more playing. The bass player who sings is actually pretty good. This was close to my 30th Yngwie show BTW....seen him on every tour since 1985.

I had VIP tickets to generation axe in Philly - toured the stage and got to meet briefly the whole group. I sat front row right in front of Yngwie and Vai and it was the most amazing concert experience of my life. He looks healthy, played well and interacted with Vai really well. All the guys were cool (Zack was the people's champion lol) and it was amazing to be six feet away from my two all time biggest influences. Yeah and he did have 50+ heads and when he was having app issues he looked up at me and my girlfriend and said "people wonder why I carry so many amps". Classic.
