Anybody see Yngwie live lately?

He'd rather pay for the ridiculous backline and all the labor, than find a vocalist. Reminds me of Robin Trower. Tours with cheap backup band.

Last night, 6 were on but only 2 had cables going to them in the front. Obviously, the bulk are for show. My guess is one was actually under full power for the stage (coz it was crazy loud) and the other going to the main sound system. The others under power are probably for backup and hot swap so they are warmed up and ready to go should something go wrong.

I would suspect that others are gutted only for weight reduction (carrying around and driving around)

The volume is just hilarious.. I saw him playing a small bar down here in south florida not far from his home and he was using a 100 watt and a 50 watt with a pedal.. the first chords completely obliterated those not prepared! loool
My brother had to move back into the crowd .. it was great.

Yeah, it was kind of nuts but at the same time it was not annoying - it was actually great as you say. In fact, I'm totally blown away that my iphone picked up the clips without being completely distorted.

Yngwie rocked last night in St. Charles, IL!!! Killer show!!! Glad I went.

I've seen him a dozen times. Always killer. One time there were only 30 people at the show. He took requests. Show was badass.

Sounds like when I saw LA guns a few years ago at a small local theater. Place holds 1200 and I couldn't even count 50 people there. I'm going to get tickets for Yngwie. The place is small so it ought to be easy to get a great view.

I opened for LA Guns about 10 years ago, same situation, huge bar and about 50 people haha even more depressing was that 30 of the people were there to see us and left right after we were done, LA Guns played to probably 15-25 people :S

Yngwie is just such a character. There's really no other Yngwie. Love him or hate him, you gotta give him credit for his innovation and influence on such a huge number of really fantastic bands and players over the years. He's one of the biggest douche bags in music but he has always remained consistent in his playing. If he came to my town, I would go see him in a heartbeat even if I am not really a huge fan.

I sat in a bar here in Billings, MT and watched April Wine play to about 10 people, who didn't even seem to care or pay any attention. I was sitting there, grooving on the songs that I grew-up loving from Harder, Faster and Nature of the Beast... and feeling embarrassed for them and for the lame people of my city, that such a great band had such a poor turnout.

Yngwie has been my guitar god since my brother brought home the first Rising Force album in '85. He was by far my biggest influence throughout the 80s and even though I don't play or sound like him any more (outside of my flamenco-influenced acoustic gig), I will still always credit him with being THE guy for me, more than any other who shaped me as a player. I rarely listen to his music any more, but whenever I do listen (to anything up until Magnum Opus), I always ask myself why I don't listen more. And yeah... he's just an over-the-top parody of himself anymore, but seeing him live has been a bucket-list item for me since I was young and didn't know what a bucket list even was.

I drove 500 miles to Denver for the Iron Maiden show last April and was walking down the 16th Street Mall afterwards when I heard people talking about having been to see Yngwie, Vai, Zakk, etc at the Bluebird while the Maiden show was going on at Pepsi Center. I've seen Maiden before (and loved them), so I was bummed about missing my guitar idol and not even knowing that he was in town.

Fast-forward to this year... the wife and I will be in Vegas in two weeks, when Yngwie is playing the HoB. We bought tickets and the pre-paid front-of-the-line dinner package for the HoB. So after all of these years... I'm finally gonna get to see the man. I always wear ear plugs to concerts, but this thread has been a good reminder for me not to forget them. I'll especially make sure that my wife has them... as her favorite musician is Jimmy Buffett... so Yngwie is REALLY gonna be a bit much for her!  But to her credit, she and I saw Satriani in 2008 at the same HoB and stood 5 feet in front of him all night and she enjoyed the hell out of that show and has thought very highly of Satch ever since. So at least she's been exposed to a night of guitar shredding before and loved it.

He announced the show in Tucson long before he decided to add Phoenix. I think a lot of folks in Phoenix bought tix for the Tucson show, but won't go now, since he'll be in Phoenix the next night. Kinda thinking of snagging cheap tix on CL and heading down there. I saw him signing autographs at NAMM a few years ago, but haven't seen play live in almost 20 yrs. H

BTW, does he really make any money touring in the US, or is it all coming from his shows in Europe and Japan. I can't see him getting rich from album sales.

Money for album sales is pretty much history for everyone. Live shows and sell T-shirts is how musicians make money for many years now.

Basically being a musician really means traveling T-shirt salesman.

TRUTH!!!

Concert tickets (and other paid public appearances), T-shirts and endorsements generally are what pay the bills these days for music artists. Different world than it used to be. In some ways good (in that artists have more freedom to be themselves and less record company execs shoving their agenda down the "paid monkeys" throats). But bad in that the artists seem to see less financial reward from their recorded output.

I'm seeing him tonight in Seattle...last time I saw him was about thirty years ago.

52 heads
18 cabs
6 amps running.
2 plugged in.
2 cabs being miked.

Talked with Jeff Loomis for a few minutes at the show. Yngwie sounded as good as ever.

Awesome. Same as at our show - 6 running, 2 plugged in from the front. But after seeing the rig rundown, looks like he does plug some in from the back.

I'm still LMAO from that Rig Rundown where he keeps talking about all the crap he has and saying "but I don't use it - I have it if I need it, but I'm not using it" too funny :)

I attended. He was pretty killer, glad I went. If you get a chance, go. Entertaining anyway.

When I was getting my amp fixed a couple of months ago the tech showed me some of the amps Yngwie just dropped off to get checked. He lives local to me.Here are some pics of them.I was touching them to see if any talent would rub off on me....The answer is no(lol). It was a very cool thing to see...

Definitely worth going if you are a fan. I saw him a few weeks back in New Jersey and it was one of the better YJM shows of the last couple of years. Less clowning around and more playing. The bass player who sings is actually pretty good. This was close to my 30th Yngwie show BTW....seen him on every tour since 1985.

I had VIP tickets to generation axe in Philly - toured the stage and got to meet briefly the whole group. I sat front row right in front of Yngwie and Vai and it was the most amazing concert experience of my life. He looks healthy, played well and interacted with Vai really well. All the guys were cool (Zack was the people's champion lol) and it was amazing to be six feet away from my two all time biggest influences. Yeah and he did have 50+ heads and when he was having app issues he looked up at me and my girlfriend and said "people wonder why I carry so many amps". Classic.

He is in Dallas next Fri June 9th at Gas Monkey...I may hit this one if I can
