Anyone else find modelers/sims uninspiring?

I actually find the variety of tones available in the Kemper to be extremely inspiring. Whereas the amp always sounds like the amp; different profiles draw out different playing styles, stretching me as a player.

I agree, it's just a different flavor of inspiring.

The kemper gives me ideas for recording stuff and arranging stuff. Honestly "inspiring" is kind of a vague way to put it - does it make me want to crank up and play "whole lotta love"? No.

But it works great as a tool for recording and practicing at low volumes. I've never been impressed with it for live rigs, but I also don't generally have professional level reinforcement at the types of clubs and small theaters I play.

The real issue isn't the "sound" of modelers IMO, which is basically a reflection of the user and their knowledge/time they want to spend on it.... it's that if no one builds, designs, or buys real amps the modeler wont have anything to model.

I'm almost 56 and play live and have thought about getting more into amp modelling for gigs. The problem is that I'd most likely still bring a cab, power amp, etc, so wonder at what point is the juice worth the squeeze.

I have shrunk my rig with the use of the Dual Baby transistor amp and now have the Synergy stuff. I don't even know what setup I'd do. Probably like a Fractal AM4 or Helix with an FRFR cab. I wasn't blow away when I did that years ago though so hard to say.
All depends on your needs and what you prefer using and lugging to gigs. I’m using a Tonex cab for reference on stage and XLR outs to FOH.

Yeah very true and I think I'd go the modelling route and not feel like I'm missing anything. I've heard good things about the Tonex cab and the Laney cab.

My ADHD would have me all over the place with modelling though, lol.

I love them. Do I prefer standing in front of 100 watts and 4 12-inch speakers? Yep, no comparison. But I can’t be doing that shit at 5AM when inspiration strikes before work and my wife is sleeping. I use modeling mostly at home for writing and drafting demos, then real amps in the bands. I also have load boxes and all that but with a modeler or plugin it’s two clicks if any to get a preset that I know works for me, no cables, fiddling to remember settings, etc. Just a guitar from the wall and go. I’ve been down the rabbit hole and back. They’re all tools with their ideal uses to me.
