I actually find the variety of tones available in the Kemper to be extremely inspiring. Whereas the amp always sounds like the amp; different profiles draw out different playing styles, stretching me as a player.
I agree, it's just a different flavor of inspiring.
The kemper gives me ideas for recording stuff and arranging stuff. Honestly "inspiring" is kind of a vague way to put it - does it make me want to crank up and play "whole lotta love"? No.
But it works great as a tool for recording and practicing at low volumes. I've never been impressed with it for live rigs, but I also don't generally have professional level reinforcement at the types of clubs and small theaters I play.
The real issue isn't the "sound" of modelers IMO, which is basically a reflection of the user and their knowledge/time they want to spend on it.... it's that if no one builds, designs, or buys real amps the modeler wont have anything to model.
