Anyone else get Banned at HC

Went to login last night to see what was going on and I get the below message I wrote the Mods and Admins but none of them will respond back. Weird as hell when something like this happens and you don't know why.

You have been banned for the following reason:
No reason was specified.

Date the ban will be lifted: Never

No... but I got banned over at metroamp and it is absolutely ridiculous. I'm completely blown away...

Fuck HC. It's a bunch of 15 year olds, and a great number of non-guitarists/ non-musicians now. I mean a LOT. Back in the day, there were a lot of young, killer players there. Now it's a bunch of X Box addicted idiots using the newest tired internet meme's of the day over and over.

Still a few good peeps over there, the speed of the forum does help distract me on slow days at work. RT is still a pretty slow moving forum comparatively, but it seems to have gotten faster over time.

JC wrote me back and told me that my IP address was looped into the mess yesterday making me look like I was doing the hacking. Well, I'm flattered but believe me I'm not smart enough or dumb enough to do any of that shit. He said Phil banned my account because I'm now looked at as a HACKER

I had a minor disagreement with someone (nothing more than I see in the EVH forum there all the time) where many other members were agreeing with what I said and I got a warning for "arguing". I then went back to the thread and found that many posts had been deleted destroying the continuity of what was said (mind you - there was no profanity, no threats, no racism, pornography - absolutely NOTHING objectionable). I responded to the admin who had sent the warning, VERY respectfully, saying fair enough - but how many more posts are you going to delete - I don't understand this level of moderation for a discussion I see all the time here. The admin responded that I was "way out of line" (no way I was...) and that they delete any posts that they deem "inappropriate". I then went back to the thread where the discussion took place and found that ALL my posts had been deleted as well as any posts agreeing with what I said, etc. Basically the whole discussion, which while somewhat argumentative was not offensive in the least. I responded back to the admin saying that I would not continue to post at a board with this level of moderation and that they were free to delete all my posts at their discretion since they found it so easy... I did not ask them to delete my account - I figured I could lurk, search for interesting topics, but cease posting. Next time I went back to check something, my account had been permanently banned. I went back another time and all IPs associated with my account had been banned as well. I tried to call George at Metroamp to discuss and left a message, however he did not return my call...

Unreal... The whole IP blocking is so stupid since I can easily surf the site through a proxy server anyway. This was a case of pure censorship and unbelievable over-administration. They are free to do what they want over there - it is their personal board, but this was a WAY over the top over-reaction by the admin IMO... I took down my amp build thread because I was pretty offended by the censorship before they banned me... petty on my part maybe, but I was pretty mad about the whole thing...

I am trying to educate myself about tube amps, and in some threads over at HC I posted advice that I got from some books, and articles that I have read. This is all going to the much debated topic of impedance. A couple of people started to flame me saying that I don't know what I am talking about, so I posted links to articles that I have researched to come to my opinion, and a few people there just said I am completely wrong, and that a mismatch will blow up your amp because of flyback voltage. So I asked what is flyback voltage?? Can you tell me how it happens, what it is etc, I want to learn what it is. No one would point me to any info, and an amp builder there was part of the flaming, and not providing info. Finally they gave me a link that mentioned flyback voltage, but in the same article the author says that he mismatches impedance all the time, and that 99% of the time it will not cause any damage. That was the point that I was making that as long as you only mismatch by one you should be ok as long as you don't crank it to 11.

That is when I decided to leave HC. I don't mind being corrected. But if someone is going to say that I am wrong, and the articles that I linked to are wrong back it up. Especially if you are an amp builder you should have a working knowledge of what you are talking about unless you are just copying circuits, and making a couple of small changes.

I am finished ranting about HC for now.

That is just not right and agree with your postion Steve, if the arguement is free of personnel insults I see nothing worry with that. I am thinking you may have bruised an ego over there and that person contacted a mod.

I hate censorship period, but even moreso when it's the "mightier than thou" types doing it.

Completely altering what happened on a thread is ridiculous, especially when there have been no threats, no attacks, no racial comments, no offensive images, etc... nothing that could result in liability for the owner...

At metro - there seems to be different rules for different members, because I see arguments that get more personal in the EVH forum all the time, with no posts being deleted... I don't get the overzealous, "drunk with power" over-reaction of this particluar mod either in my case - especially when I asked for clarification very respectfully. This is a similar approach taken in administration at the JCF forum - which is why I never post there anymore (of course, they didn't ban me or my IPs either when I told them I was going to discontinue posting due to their rude responses to my respectfully phrased questions). I don't get why asking for simple clarification is such an affront to some of these admins?? I didn't even mention that I actually APOLOGIZED in the thread for taking up space defending myself AND that I told the mod I would follow the rules and avoid arguments in the future, even though I just didn't see any precedent for the warning I was issued...

It is a real bummer because the metro site is full of great information and many cool, level-headed folks. I've also been a good repeat customer at the metro store as well, but now... I dunno... Like I said, I can still use the site though even though they banned my IPs, so no big deal I guess... Unfortunately for the people that cared, I will no longer share the cool stuff I'm working on...

As far as personal insults go, the furthest it got on my side was suggesting that the guy I was arguing with (a guy with the moniker "dirtycooter", btw) that he seek professional help for continuing to hammer me on the same points that I'd already explained that he'd misinterpreted and that other people were also trying to explain he misunderstood. While he was sarcastically making fun of my comments, I wasn't in the least bit offended by any of it... It was just like any heated discussion - no big deal at all...

As I said, this admin, obviously "drunk with power", got pissed that anyone would DARE to respectfully ask for an explanation for his behavior, rudely responded to me and then banned me. I was hoping to speak with George at Metro (who I met and spoke with at the LA Amp Show) so that he would understand how he is being represented by this guy on HIS board, but as I said, he has failed to return my call. If I was him, I'd want to know about this. Who knows though - this admin guy deleted every one of my posts in the thread and I have no access to the PMs I sent, which were clearly very respectful - I have no proof of anything and the admin could do anything he wants to support his side... prolly a waste of time pursuing this...

BTW: Other than the spammers selling jewelry I have only banned two people from the site. One guy got a 2 week vacation and is welcome back now and the other is Carl who burned his bridge with me early on in the process.

Scott Lehman (the original HC admin) was cool about all of this stuff.

He sure was, and a lot more. Scott set an example for all Mods and Admin to follow, he was the purest of the pure. I could go on but in short, HC died when he sold it, and sadly it took me a while to admit it. Back in the day HC was the place, I cut my BB teeth there, and will never forget the good times.

I guess one of the draws for me here is many of the members were on HC, back in the day.
Thanks to Bob and Chris for making it happen, and Brad(plus his helpers) for continuing.
