Ola Englund left Washburn and has a new line. http://www.solar-guitars.com/
Imports, seem solid, reasonably priced, not the usual fare for this board but sometimes you don't want to drop $1500+ for an axe.

I have no relationship here, just dig the Haunted and Feared.

Wow.. I'm betting he's done with Randall too. What a fucked up company that ran both brands into the ground.

The whole thing has a Chapman vibe somehow. Not that that's a bad thing..

Hopefully they are nice and do well. Ola is a pretty cool guy from what I’ve seen and he’s become a pretty badass player who definitely knows his shit.

Looks like he is sticking with those Evertune bridges.

I don't know anything about those evertunes, are they cool?

Indonesian made. Same company that makes the Ibanez Iron label series and Jackson neck thru Pro series. Which is most likely Cort. But Samick is also Indonesian and made Washburn guitars.

Cort will do smaller orders than Samick, so most likely Cort.

The pictures on the Solar website show the Indonesian made labels on the back of the head stock.

The "Seymour Duncan Solar" pickups were "Duncan designed" when he was with Washburn. So they are most likely the same thing

Where are they made?

They are hand made in Iceland of the Earth's rawest and most highest quality materials. Each guitar is hand forged by only the world's best Master Luthiers. There is something magical about the rarest tonewoods and each Solar guitar will deliver you greatness.

Jk idk probably MIK if I had to guess. Edit: Or Indonesia ^^

I just ordered my first yesterday. Won't be here for a couple of weeks though but I will definitely post a thread. I have heard nothing but good things. I'm sure it will be a pain to learn how to set up at first and I am unsure how the bend lock thing works. I am hoping for the best. They seem pretty low profile so I wanted to try.

every Indonesian guitar I ever had had some QC issues that led me to sell or return it. They were mostly agathis and other wood species that just don't resonate, not dense enough. That to me will be the dealbreaker , wood and QC.

Good for Ola! He was always a cool guy.

He used to do great clips back in the day.

Does he post here, anymore?

I am thinking of the E series evertune. But not sure. I would like to try an evertune though especially for drop B

I have a facebook friend who swears they are the shit but have never tried them either. I did research a bit and some say they kill just a bit of sustain and mess with your bends. Was close to bidding on an Ola 6 string Washburn on ebay last week just to try one.. bidding started at $400 but once it hit $600 I lost interest... I am curious though.

Ola said he was personally QC'ing all the guiatrs initially. How long will that last? I don't know, but that's reassuring.

yeah I think some of the ones at $1k+ is pushing it a little bit but there are some cool looking ones in the $699 range. LOVE the Explorer. I do hope he does well. Ola has always been cool. He has definitely put the time in and is realizing his dream which is bad ass.

I have a guitar with one, I like it. You get used to the feeling of the bridge against the palm of your hand in a couple minutes and the tuning benefits - never having to tune your guitar throughout practice or gigs - are pretty damn awesome. The guitar holds its tuning the whole time. If you have it set in the zone where bending doesn't effect the pitch it'll mess with your head (plus it looks really, really strange). I tuned my guitar up maybe three or four months ago and haven't even had to perform a slight adjustment since then (weather was in the 80's and dry, now it is wet and cold). They have three different zones and if you set it up tuning it up to pitch and then going up to just before it starts to go sharp you can still do bends without any issues plus you get the stay-in-tune benefit.

My only real gripe with the system is that the guitars with the system pre-installed are mostly imports and when you buy a made in Korea / China / Indonesia guitar you can get a dud. A few makers have some higher level guitars equipped with them but mostly lower quality imports. The cost for getting the system installed in a guitar is scary ($275 for the installation, $300 for the bridge) plus if you don't like the results then you're screwed because there isn't any way to "go back"

Ola's a great guy and wish him all the best! Here's a cool video addressing a lot of the questions I'm reading in this thread.
