Dimarzio seems to have a rep for being a shredders only company but i really like quite a few of their pu's and i dont consider myself a shredder, i play a little of everything. classic rock, metal, jazz, country, fusion
They are very different sounding pickups and while duncan's are said to be higher quality
component wise dimarzio has more models to offer. Really am liking the PAF pro and duncan does not offer anything like it.
Anyone here use dimarzio over duncans?

I like both Dimarzio's and Duncan's but my favorite combo is the Dimarzio DP 103 in the neck and the DP 100 in the bridge
in my CHarvel. Great tones for every occasion! :D

too many Ceramic pickups in the Dimarzio world. AND NO Custom SHOP!@?
Fuck that.
I can call seymour duncan custom shop and get my own perfect pickup made.
I have a special Alnico 8 JB that MJ wires for me, its the best pickup I have ever used besides the Arcane that its based on.
Unfortunately Arcane is too busy to make me a pickup these days, but SD Custom Shop will have me what I want within a few weeks.

I called DiMarzio and talked to someone over there and they scoffed at me for preferring Alnico pickups, thats when I knew FUCK THEM.
I have read about other guys on forums that had similar experiences
and i agree that dimarzio is limiting themselves with no custom shop and not offering more
alnico models like alnico 2, 3 and 8 humbuckers.
they just recently used alnico 4 in their PAF Master models but still no A2,A3 or A8?
They really should not have "scoffed" at you just for preferring alnico pickups?
I also prefer alnico to ceramic and it was really strange for them to have anything negative to say about a player preferring one over the other.
They do make a few models i really dont go for, like the super 3,drop sonic and X2N
But the PAF pro, tone zone,36th PAF and quite a few others are really good.
I guess it is safe to say they could be a little more open minded to what unsigned players have to say
and not just listen to vai, satch, petrucci, timmons, lukather, etc.
Duncan does not treat everyday players any different than the Known guys thats for sure.

My AT-1 beats my Custom 78 any day of the week and was a lot cheaper. Love DiMarzio.

I like suhr much more than either Duncan or dimarzio. Between Duncan and dimarzio its a toss up to me, both make nice pickups.

I use both, and I like both. I'd have to say I prefer Dimarzio, as I just have more of them in my guitars. My new axe came with the 36th Anniversary set in it. I can't say enough great things about them.

the 78 should just be a $80 standard production model not $160 CS.
the AT-1 is a great pu!

My Lacewood 94 Charvel came with custom Dimarzios that are just awesome! I normally like Duncans but those pickups are off the charts good. It's either that or the guitar

I concur. And I'll sell mine for just $110.

I have mainly Dimarzios (D activator, Evo, Titan, Tone Zone), but I recently (in the last year) got a guitar with a Alternative 8...it's a pretty killer pickup as well.

I prefer Dimarzios. But the Duncans that were in my Charvel San Dimas were great. Love Suhr too.

I have used / use both. I find dimarzio sometimes lack the definition I like or are too bright on the high end. 36 anniversary are fantastic but lead playing I find them sharp. Great pup overall and would be suited to thick evenly balanced wood. Love dimarzio for their singles or stacked singles though. The chopper and cruiser are kick ass. In the bridge, I dig JB or even better JB with alnico ii. Aldrich is one of the best bridge pups out there though and a nod also over to bill Lawrence with the original L500. AT-1 I dug but a little too muted in that it does sound like a jb in a charvel with no tone pot and just one 250 k pot.
