Come on, someone must have found a better match by now?? :gethim:
I've gone through 6 different speakers and V30's work well, but I'm not completely satisfied with that pairing

splawn small blocks, i have played this combination and it flat screams with a 5150. Greg mentioned he couldnt get them to record well but IMHO its much cleaner sounding/more organized sounding than V30's and the top end of the splawn SB's match a 5150 perfectly.

i love the straight 4x12 with full v30's

but i find i can get a little more cut with x pattern g12k100 and v30

the v30 records the best though

I only ask because it's all I seem to see and hear the amp played through.
At high volumes, the V30's can get offensive in the midrange. But at sensible volumes they sound great. But I like to push some air and the V30's get so blurry in the mids. If I the lower the amps mids too much to compensate, the amp loses some life to it's tone.
Greenbacks record well, but perform less than well. They can get a little too middy too at high volumes. Maybe I'm just leaning towards speakers with conservative mids with this amp.
V30XT75 seems to sound best. But now I'm using a BL80 & T75 in a 2x12. This is also performing and sounding great.

If you feel you're "almost there," I'd recommend investing in the MXR 10-Band EQ, or similar EQ. Just keep a flat EQ and give a slight cut to the frequencies that are bothering you.

Personally, I use V30s for modern tones and Greenbacks for classic tones.

Swamp Thang with Legend v128 or 1218. I hate V30's with a passion with 5150's as it's already a mid heavy, fizzy amp. Matching a mid heavy, fizzy speaker with a mid heavy, fizzy amp is too much. I like a smooth, high wattage speaker with little break up.

The Swamp Thang adds a ton of low end chunk, and the v128 or 1218 are a fairly balanced speaker, so they balance things out a bit. It's a killer combo.

Eminence Legends.

Back when I had a 5150.
Get another one. They're cheap!!

I'm poor right now. I'm so poor, I've been passing up on free concerts. I ate a melted-to-shit leftover ice cream cake for lunch today because I couldn't afford to buy food. My Jeep had front end problems that have sucked up all my spare funds.

Can't get the gear trailer to the gigs without the Jeep.

Greg's 5150 sounds great through 25w greenbacks

I agree. On that note, I think the 6505 I have would sound good through a Pignose speaker

Weber 1265s in my Emperor are DOOOOPPPEEEE...higher wattage greenback with a sweet upper mid, tons of low (probably the size of the 6X12) and the highs are crisp. I run my lead channel eq (with a TS9 in front Gain 0 Tone half Level dimed) 5, 8, 4, 6 and resonance dimed with presence at 6. Amazing.

EDIT

And FWIW, I HATED the legends - I thought they were flat and scooped sounding. They were loaded in those POS Basson cabs tho. I've tried the Swamp Thang..better but I'm a Celestion guy thru and thru...starting to take more of an interest in the Webers and Scumbacks now having them.

6505+ through Splawn cab with SB25s is awesome. I have a Mesa 2x12 w/ sb25s in it also. Equally awesome.
