I really like the OD 808 into my Splawn QR but sometimes I wish I could get a little more saturation from it. Seems like this might be able to do that.

Much crisper highs and more output that the original. Slightly more bass too, not a lot though.

It's very much like the "regular" one but as others have stated, more gain, more output, more highs ... doesn't have the mid push the regular 808 has so depending on what you are looking for to achieve it may or may not work for you. Personally, I think the idea for this one was to be more as a standalone OD that doesn't have the nasally 808 sound ... however, that nasally regular 808 tone works so amazing to tighten up and push and already gained up amp.

Interesting.
I use it to boost a Triple Rec and 6505+. Gain off. Volume up.

You really need more saturation than a QR and OD808? Did you turn up the gain on the OD?

IMO humble opion it sucks as an Overdrive and here is why.

The OD808X is a distortion pedal and not an OD.

I sold mine as soon as possible. Also I will note the regular Maxon 808 is the best OD I have ever played and my favorite.

"They took the 808 circuit and tweaked it to what a distortion pedal would consist of."

I got that from a very well known and reputable pedal builder.

I would give a much better review if they named it Maxon808DST or something else.

That may actually work for you with you amp after thinking about it.

My buddy has the QR and while I think it is a great amp. It is not for me because I play metal and like the super high gain type and IMO the QR can not do that. So maybe the 808x would work for you.

Worth a shot but imo if you are looking for super charged saturation you may just need a new amp.

I like the original od808, so i'm sure the od808x would be cool?? just seems like a brighter version of the pedal.

Not trying to hijack the thread...what do you guys who like the Maxon 808 like about it over a standard TS9? I've always wanted to try the Maxon 808 but just haven't yet.

Standard reissue TS9 or an original? I used to collect vintage tube screamers until Maxon came out with the OD808 and the OD9. The Ibanez reissues don't sound like the originals because of them cheapening them with lesser parts. The Maxon stuff convinced me I don't need a drawer full of $2k worth of Tube Screamers anymore :D

I'm referring to the standard reissue TS9's.

For me it just did not fit my application I suppose.

I did a side by side with my Maxon and this guy's TS9 and idk...To me the Maxon808 is perfect.

That mid hump and tightness, that just enough extra oomph but not too much. Just the perfect OD to me the tone simply sounded better to my ears that the TS9. Maybe the TS9 had too much gain or something idk.

Same deal with Ibanez TS808. Did the side by side and Maxon won by a landslide. Pure bliss.

Lol, I just bought an 808x earlier this week due to arrive Monday. I never saw a bad review until this thread, lol!
My needs are specific, I'm not using a lot of gain on a clean amp, I like to use ODs with little to no gain as a tone shaper. This sounds good to me:

I have a TOD9, which I like a lot but wish it had more output- I like to drive the front of an amp. I have the Protone Misha, which has plenty of output but is a bit extreme in its low cut (I guess perfect for 8 stringers). I had a BB+ that I loved but flipped in a GAS frenzy. Hope the 808x does the trick

OD808x is really awesome with the Kemper on low-mid gain profiles like MBritt and TAFF. Just does something incredible to them. IMHO of course.
