Are you using the 4 Cable Method? If so, try checking settings in the POD for line level. In my Gt100 I had the line level set for -10 which made it sound like crap. I set it to +4 and that did the trick.

haven't tried the 4CM yet (that will have to wait until tomorrow when I get another cable) but I think I have my head around whats going on...up until now I have just been guessing how to hook it up, but after watch the above vid and a few others I think I got it

.......youre probably right so far..Tc has not done anything with the g in a long time.I also have all 3 versions..I like it for what it is,but this new stuff like the ax/8,line 6,ect are nice too..Ive often though if eventide ever takes their h9max and expands it to a "g type system layout", it would be a very hot seller...Recently ive gone back to using my maxed out tc 2290 and its loops.I still love the 2290.

I was gonna make a new thread, but this might be the best place.

So, currently I run some drive pedals direct into a Focusrite recording interface for use with JamUp Bias. I don't even own an amp anymore. I miss it, but I do really like the tones I'm getting. What I want to do now is add some modulation effects to my board, and get some nice monitors. As far as I can tell, I can't switch between patches on Bias via MIDI, which sucks. I could be wrong about that, Idk. I could set up multiple tracks in Logic and use MIDI to switch between the active track, maybe? Who knows. Anyway, I'm thinking a multi-fx board with MIDI would be the most cost effective way to go. Get my modulation effects and control of my plug-ins. What unit should I be looking at?

I'm mostly looking for modulation. A nice variety of each type would be good. Delays would be nice to have, but since I would be running it out front, so it won't be that useful. I've got some nice sounding delay plug-ins that can take care of that. I just need to figure out how to control those plug ins via MIDI. Drive stuff is cool, a nice sounding fuzz is great to have too. A good sounding Fuzzface style sim would be great. Amp Sims are not important, but if I had them I would use them. Would be convenient for impromptu jam sessions.

I've never had any of the Line 6 gear, but I've used the older stuff. I was interested in the Helix, until I heard the sound clips and saw the price tag. Those amp sims don't sound like $1500 to me...not when I can excellent sounds or of Bias without tweaking a thing, and it cost me like $150. I've used the dedicated Line 6 effects boxes at pick up gigs/back line, and got along with them just fine. I like the TC Electronics stuff too, especially that newish chorus pedal they've got. Sounds similar to my old TC Spacial Expander that was stolen from me. Wish I still had that unit.

Ideally, I would go with pedals and set everything up on a looper with MIDI control, but that is way out of my price range. Any ideas people? G-system? Line 6? Something more,,,, exotic perhaps?

Positive grid makes that bluetooth pedal switcher. It's only a 3 button switch but still you can change patches and banks. I don't think you can turn effects off and on though. I have to say that jam up completely took me by surpise at how good it sounds. And super easy to dial in good sounds. I just got it as a convenient practice tool but I have to say through monitors or headphones it sounds great. One thing that took me by surprise is how responsive the amp sims were to the volume knob on the guitar. Now, I don't think I would be comfortable gigging with a laptop and switcher. But there's no doubt if I had a problem with my amp, I could plug into the PA and get some damn good tone. I have an RP1000 that I use in 4 cable method through a JCM800. I got rid of all my pedals except a couple. The only thing in that box that I can't get a decent sound out of is the phase shifter. The OD's, delays, chorus, flanger all sound good. But the phaser just doesn't work for me. Although it does have an external pedal loop that intigrates into the patches. But overall it's super easy to get good tone out of.

A lot of people bitch about modelers. But most either don't put the time in necessary to dial in good tone, don't have a good ear to do it, or they just plain suck and are going to bitch about the equipment instead of practicing to sound better. As for the RP1000, I think the several of the amp models sound good if properly dialed in. But, if you go in thinking it's going to feel like an amp, then don't bother. It won't. And that's most peoples complaint. But it will sound very close to a real amp. You just have to put in a little time to dial it in. And as I said earlier, It's very easy to get to sound good. And if you use it with an amp and a good loop, pretty much no tone suck. If you want to go rack then get the GSP1101. It's pretty much the same thing just rack mount and it has dual DSP's and you can download IR's.

But, until something comes out with something way better than the RP for a decent price (500-800), sounds good in 4CM (no tone suck), I'm just holding out. Because as good as Jamup sounds for practicing and recording and my current rig for gigging, I really don't think I'm going to do significantly better unless I spend a ton of dough.

And hey, I do remember you from the older days. If I recal you're from central Illinois and we PM'd regarding a CS Les Paul that was stolen from me.

Line 6 Helix. Thing looks amazing, seriously. Should have very powerful DSP. Not sure if as powerful as the Fractal unit but better features, at least for me. The most important of them being the 4 assignable effect loops!!! I can't believe Fractal didn't include any external loops on the fx8.

I've had the HD500 since 2012 and as an effects unit it is a great alternative to a real pedalboard (which I also have and use) but the Helix looks to be more on par with Fractal's quality. Hopefully the switches don't wear out like the original HD500.

That's me! I'm in San Diego now, but I'm from Illinois originally. A guitar player friend of mine and I drove at least 100 miles around our area looking for your LP on a day off from school and band practice. Didn't find it, but we sure tried! Did you ever get it back?

I was looking at using the IK Blueboard, but it's so expensive for so few options. I'd much rather use something with more buttons. If I'm going to spend the cash to control my plugins via MIDI, I want a lot of buttons, and preferably the ability to use the MIDI controller with a hardware rig in the future. I've looked around in the settings for Bias Desktop, and I can't find any mention of MIDI control anywhere. I got it working in Amplitube via the built in MIDI tool and an app on my tablet called TouchDAW. I created a screen in TouchDAW with labeled buttons to change between presets. Not as good as having it on the floor, but it got the job done as long as I could let go of the guitar and tap the screen.

It sounds like the RP might be the way to go. I'll have to do some research into that particular model. It's got loops for my stand alone pedals, right? It would be great to get my Tube Driver, Bad Monkey, treble booster, and Big Muff incorporated into a MIDI rig along with the modulation effects and changing presets in Bias.

Thanks for the help

So the only way to use fx on the hd500 is doing the 4cm?

There's no other way to bypass the amp sims and use its fx only??

How about the TC Nova? I hear it's also got a lot of issues with 4CM, which isn't surprising. It might work out well for my needs though, running it directly into my recording interface for use with plug-ins. I've always loved TC's modulation effects.

No, you can run it which ever you want. Using 4cm method will allow you to run some effects before the preamp like you would when you plug a Tube Screamer into an amps input, and after the preamp like when you use a delay pedal in the effects loop of an amp.

On the HD500 you can also choose to use all of the footswitches to turn effects on/off or you can have the bottom row dedicated to preset patches and keep the top row for effects.

I use it both ways. I have a few amps set up that I switch between and the top row kicks in comp, boost, etc. Also have about ten different pedalboards saved where all of the switches are dedicated to effects. You can have one switch control multiple effects and can assign any parameter of any effect to the exp pedal too, which is nice.

Even has an assignable effects loop so you can connect a pedal or several and assign them anywhere in the chain.

Can the HD500 do assignable switches like the GT100? Meaning, on the GT100 I can assign 8 different things to 1 switch. For example, I can hit one switch and have it kick in an EQ and a delay and increase a pedal's drive setting.

When I looked at the GT100's switches I thought it lacked a bit but with the assign's you can really do a lot.

Yes. One switch can be assigned to turn on or off any number of effects (well, up to 8) and can also switch on or off an amp model. I'm not sure if the switches can trigger effect or amp parameters such as drive settings, but the expression pedal can.

I thought the same thing but everything in the FX8 is so good you really don't need any external pedals. At least in my case anyway. The drives and FX are outstanding. But I still prefer the layout of my G-System over all of them. Built like a tank with the big buttons. The FX8 is the bomb though. It sounds amazing. No tone suck in 4 cable setup whatsoever.
