Apparently Marshal released a 20 watt JCM900

I dunno. The SC20 is pretty cool for a lower watt amp. The SV20 ok for the price used. This could be cool. Can't really see it selling more than either of those tho.

20 watts is overkill for gigs though. You rockstars take a single step up onto a low stage and pretend like you're at Budokan.

I dig mine.

I bet this is more for the person who collects all the 20 watts . That being said I liked 900s . My least fav but still had a good roar

No way will this pay for their sins. Release a modern epic next level amp from the UK without outsourced iron and then we'll talk.

Chugg Norris seems to think they are all that but no one ever agrees with him.

When someone says "wizards are neutered shit" and JCM900s (!?) are the greatest amps ever, it basically is a sign from god that Chugg needs to share his crack cocaine plug, because that's the only way anyone with ears would ever agree

JCM900's are fine, I don't think they're awful or anything - though some disagree and think they're awful, certainly.

Which, I mean yeah compared to a really clean Jubilee, JMP, or 800 (let alone a super lead) they are shit. They're definitely fizzy and thin, and can be tough to dial in. I don't think they are complete ass at all, with the right pickups, speakers and pedals you can get them sounding decent. It does take some work, though.

On the other hand, if it said "Laney" or "Hiwatt" or "Traynor" or literally anything besides "marshall" on the nameplate, they would cost 154 dollars on reverb. They definitely are a nu-metal/90s sound and vibe, and the association with those bands and tones probably hurt their reputation a little more than is fair to the amp.

This is pretty much my thoughts on JCM900's. They're not bad amps at all once you figure out how to dial them in. At the same time though there are better options out there at better prices. The only thing keeping it in the price range it's in is the Marshall badge. It even sits in a weird area amongst Marshall. I'm either going to put out a little more and get a JCM800 or save a bit and go for a DSL. And in both cases I think those amps sound better than a JCM900.

That's what has me scratching my head about this 20 watt JCM900. Who did they make this thing for? Who are they marketing it to? I feel like this would be the last choice for those looking at the 20 watt Studio line. It just doesn't seem to have a place; There's no major gap in the line that needed to be filled by this amp. The only think I can come up with is Marshall is hoping it'll sell on nostalgia alone or to those who are completist collectors.

Screw it, let's make it full OT worthy...

Get ready to shell out more for you're Marshall amp once dRump puts tariffs on Ireland. Meanwhile the price of eggs is through the roof, what's your fascist leader fElon gonna do? Cut off foreign aid to malnourished illegal leprechauns who are just here to pick crops? No more avocados with those EL34 you just ordered. Orange paint and spray tans are now 80% off.

Eggs…

Maybe, just maybe, eggs are so expensive, because Biden had over 100 MILLION chickens killed, which caused a 65% egg price increase ?

😉

Had a 4100 years ago. That amp, a good eq pedal and a boost and you were good to go. I don't get all the hate. Play it in the context of a band mix, and it sits exactly where it should.

It sits exactly where it should like the 2k band of an eq pedal is the only slider up :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

I kid, with some massaging they are fine but they definitely don't sound as good as their brethren and especially for the money

I got one of the first batch of EL34 4500 DR’s to get to the states and honestly, I was very disappointed. So I sent it to Todd Langner and he turned it into one of the best amps I’d ever heard. It was stunning..
He did say it was a major pain in the ass to mod, I suspect it may be the only 900 he ever dug into. It’s the 5 stage Viscous Rumors tone plugged straight in.

I still have it 40 years later ❤️

I think part of the problem was, them being 90's heads, they would usually be paired with 90's (Marshall) cabs...containing...90's T75's.
--->Tubby Screech City.

If you have an SL-X and hook it up to a Greenback loaded cab, or a JCM800 cab with G12-65's, you'll probably end up with a decent tone. But a stock 4100 into a stock 90's 1960A, no thanks.
In the late 90's, early 2000's I had *one* guitar that could make 'em sound big and fat; a somewhat cheap GrassRoots Horizon (H-S super strat, ESP asian daughter-brand) where I had the stock cheap pickups replaced with a Duncan '59 bridge and a Lil' 59 neck.
For some reason, that guitar managed to not make a JCM900 suck. But even the cleans were meh... I was very happy when the rehearsal spaces I was renting, changed to the TSL2000 2x12 combo's that actually had good cleans (...for a Marshall).
Mind you, my bench mark for cleans is still classic Fender tube combos and Mesa Mark series, and honorable mentions for the Engl Invader 100, SE EL34, Mesa DC5 and Diezel DMoll.
