I'm not upset about it, but you're completely failing to acknowledge that any other guitarist has "fanboys".
I'm an admitted JP fanboy, but it wasn't the only reason I bought the gear I have. I had a JP originally but sold it as I searched for the ideal guitar for what I was playing at the time. Once I'd owned two high end ESPs, I realised that the EBMM was a far superior guitar and ended up buying another. Same with the Mark IV. I went through quite a few amps in a short period of time, and always wanted to try a Mark IV. I ended up finally buying one and I love it, but that doesn't mean it's just because Petrucci uses it, because it simply isn't true. Infact, I think I bought mine before Petrucci started using them again. But by the same token, I'm not denying that his playing and tones have had some influence on my own. Of course they have, I'm a huge DT fan and a huge fan of Petrucci's lead tones. My decision was influenced by a variety of factors and that was just one of them.
What you're failing to notice is that this is a trend with fans of a lot of guitarists. Any amp that any guitarist who has a legion of fans uses goes up in price. Are you trying to tell me the price of XTCs wouldn't have spiked when Vai was using them? The same with the Legacy, are you telling me people didn't up the prices on those at certain times? And people have never said "I really like the tone EVH/Vai/Satriani/Johnson/Timmons/Hetfield/Summers/etc has one *certain song*, not so much on *certain song* but I would really love to get the tone he gets on *certain song* - so how do I achieve this?" The Lamb of God factor must be playing a part too.
Every good amp has it's day in the sun, and the Mark IV is having one now.
FWIW, the footstools thing is totally hilarious. I definitely LOL'd when I saw that.
Man again, nothing against you or other fans. But my answer is same to the initial question of this thread. I'm starting to beat a dead horse here.
Ofcourse, many people are inspired by famous guitarists. I choose to listen to them but write my own music, find my own tones and styles. Next guy tries to imitate or maybe just copy his gear for whatever reason. Who cares. I do find it pathetic in some cases (yes, the foot stool thing and many others in JP forum) but otherwise, do what you want.
You'll never see me with a signature guitar (knowing I'm paying an extra grand for something that would cost way less if it wasn't a signature model just doesn't feel right. Same goes for overpriced non-signature gear too) or driving myself crazy trying to match every single frequency my "hero" has in his sound, but all the power to people who do try it.
I'm not gonna say a single word on top of this cause it's getting repetitive. I do understand your points and I'm not saying you are exactly like all the above examples. You stated many times that you are not when I didn't really accuse you directly. But all good. We're simply different.
