I see your point with this post, but the way you're making it is flawed, IMO.

So you like those Petrucci things on your lip?

Erm, sorry? I would imagine this is intended as humour, but it appears the desired outcome was not achieved.

Direct quote from a thread on Petrucci forum:

"I'm trying to get the rhythm tone that JP has in "forsaken" but I totally hate the rhythm sound in "constant motion". It has way too much high end for me. Right now my tone is more like "the dark eternal night" which is way too gritty for me too. I also have more bass in my combo than my bass player... I like it but would it be better for the overall tone to give more space for the bass?"

This is all well and good, but it's as if you're making out fans of any other guitarist have never asked for settings to get similar tones. Wouldn't Vai fans be looking to dial in their XTC/Legacy to sound like Vai? Or EVH fans their plexi? Or Timmons fans their Lonestar/Stiletto? Or Hetfield fans their IIC+/Triaxis/VH4? Or whoever.

I see your point with this post, but the way you're making it is flawed, IMO.
I thought EVH played a 5150   :D .

Yep, that's right. Everybody goes crazy over his 5150 tone and pays no attention to the tones he got with Marshalls.

What's a fanboy?

I thought more people were crazy with his Plexi tone, for example, people in the metroamps forum..nothing wrong with it, if I knew how, I would

English is not my native language, I'm sorry - I don't understand this? What you say ?

My point is pretty solid IMO. Certain guy I quoted has obviously no intention of being original. He even refers to his tone as a DT song and the tone he wants as another. Hardcore fanboy on steroids indeed. Why do you get so upset from it dude?

Funny thing is, BE a fanboy. Admit it. WHO CARES. That's not even the point of this thread.

Question isn't: Should fanboys exist?
Answer: Who cares. I'll stick with being original.

Question is: Are Petrucci fanboys pushing up Mark IV prices?
Answer: Fuck yeah.

"I've always wanted one of those footrest JP uses, so I finally got around to making one. I just went to Lowes and bought 2x4 and made a frame out of wood. Then I bought a couple of sheets of diamond plate aluminum and put it on the frame. It came out okay I guess, a little rough in spots. If I did it again, I could make it better."

I'm not upset about it, but you're completely failing to acknowledge that any other guitarist has "fanboys".

I'm an admitted JP fanboy, but it wasn't the only reason I bought the gear I have. I had a JP originally but sold it as I searched for the ideal guitar for what I was playing at the time. Once I'd owned two high end ESPs, I realised that the EBMM was a far superior guitar and ended up buying another. Same with the Mark IV. I went through quite a few amps in a short period of time, and always wanted to try a Mark IV. I ended up finally buying one and I love it, but that doesn't mean it's just because Petrucci uses it, because it simply isn't true. Infact, I think I bought mine before Petrucci started using them again. But by the same token, I'm not denying that his playing and tones have had some influence on my own. Of course they have, I'm a huge DT fan and a huge fan of Petrucci's lead tones. My decision was influenced by a variety of factors and that was just one of them.

What you're failing to notice is that this is a trend with fans of a lot of guitarists. Any amp that any guitarist who has a legion of fans uses goes up in price. Are you trying to tell me the price of XTCs wouldn't have spiked when Vai was using them? The same with the Legacy, are you telling me people didn't up the prices on those at certain times? And people have never said "I really like the tone EVH/Vai/Satriani/Johnson/Timmons/Hetfield/Summers/etc has one *certain song*, not so much on *certain song* but I would really love to get the tone he gets on *certain song* - so how do I achieve this?" The Lamb of God factor must be playing a part too.

Every good amp has it's day in the sun, and the Mark IV is having one now.

FWIW, the footstools thing is totally hilarious. I definitely LOL'd when I saw that.

Man again, nothing against you or other fans. But my answer is same to the initial question of this thread. I'm starting to beat a dead horse here.

Ofcourse, many people are inspired by famous guitarists. I choose to listen to them but write my own music, find my own tones and styles. Next guy tries to imitate or maybe just copy his gear for whatever reason. Who cares. I do find it pathetic in some cases (yes, the foot stool thing and many others in JP forum) but otherwise, do what you want.

You'll never see me with a signature guitar (knowing I'm paying an extra grand for something that would cost way less if it wasn't a signature model just doesn't feel right. Same goes for overpriced non-signature gear too) or driving myself crazy trying to match every single frequency my "hero" has in his sound, but all the power to people who do try it.

I'm not gonna say a single word on top of this cause it's getting repetitive. I do understand your points and I'm not saying you are exactly like all the above examples. You stated many times that you are not when I didn't really accuse you directly. But all good. We're simply different.

I don't think they're driving it up. He's used them before, it's not like he suddenly switched over from Fender or something. I'm definitely not a Fanboy, and I've had 3 mk IV's a Mk III and two MkIIC+'s.

I do own a couple of signature guitars though. Les Pauls.

Fair enough. Atleast we can agree the foot stools are hilarious.

According to the spam in your sig, one could think that you own a LP.

Yeah, which aren't overpriced at all.

Gibson Lespaul Vintage Mahogany... $750 with original case and worth every single penny and the best guitar I've ever played. I had $2000 to spend on guitar and I came home with this one. Go figure.

Anyways, it's still a signature guitar. :poke:

Yeah, I'll get to building my Les Paul foot stance and be the ultimate fanboy then.
