AT the crossroads. Diezel VH4 or Axe FX ultra???

Go with the AxeFX. I calculate that around version 16 or 17, it'll sound so good that when you strike a chord, you and your amp will begin to float as if being lifted by a warm air cushion scented by a lavender/vanilla substance that converts CO2 to oxygen. After mastering it, you'll be able to float to the store or to work, saving a lot of money and help getting us off fossil fuels. It'll be a great service to the country...and your tone will be awwesuummm (spoken gay tone).

You've got the amp, you've got what you consider a wicked pedalboard... Why are ya getting eaten alive by GAS?!?!? It's not going to make you a better player, and I say this because I've suffered from GAS way too many times. I get the product after my exciting wait, and then it typically just blends into the landscape of what I was doing before I had it anyway... As Lemmy once sang, "you know the chase, is better than the catch...".

Just my 2 cents.

V.

+1 lived it, once you get over it you will find your playing will get better and the equipment you have will sound better along the process.

V is a smart guy IMHO!

Keep the Diezel.

You will end up selling the Ax and going back to a tube amp. Most people will. History repeats itself.

this is the best advice yet....weve seen products like this come and go constantly...how many times have people talked about other preamps like this....recording it can have uses, but it wont last, because people want what only tubes can offer

I do the 'play it for a few weekends' test. I usually get over the GAS after a few test rides. I had been GASing for a sweet little Zion HSS Topaz burst figured top. The lust is gone. Getting new gear is bad enough when you spend all your money. Selling off great gear you own to get the next great thing is worse.... Trendy never beats Iconic.

No crossroads, a parking garage. Keep what you have parked, add another to the lot.

You know what makes me ponder life... This thread has me reminiscing about the synth days of the late 70's, and then the digital rack mount craze in the late 80's, then the back-to-basics hit of grunge and either no effects, or dodgy, high sag pedals, then the return of more boutique like pedals late 90's to early 2000's, and here we are again, back to digital rack mount systems.

I swear, in 6 to 8 years, it'll be back to "unplugged" hits and then after that it will be the stomps...

Just my guess!!
V.

It will definitely be interesting to see if this is the track that its in, or if this is the beginning of a transition like was seen with camera technology.

it never ends

I wouldn't call it trendy or a fad. It's not going anywhere anytime soon. I mean, used units are selling for $150 less than a new one. I think I had read that the Spider Valve was the most sold tube amp in America. Modeling technology isn't going anywhere and the AxeFX is on the top of the heap for simulation. On top of that it is a great FX unit.

I don't see it being temporary unless Cliff stops making them and updating them.

Its for some people  its not for others

bottom line. Just trying to give it, its fair side to equation. I love it and I can match my tones on the Herbert, Recto or the JCM 800 and the new Marsha model kicks some serious ass.

this ain't no line 6 shit and I'm not a Digital solid state guy either.

Not trying to sell anybody nothing. Some people can dial in tones on the AXE FX some people cannot.

If you don't want to spend time dialing in tones you're not going to like it. I have a Pro tools studio doesn't bother me to tweak or turn knobs. :)

Vh4 is a great amp but it is very compressed to me. I owned one for 9yrs.

do u use it live, and how, also do u have a fav power amp for it?

Not playing with anyone right now. So I haven't played it live. If I did I would run it with my VHT 2/50/2 and 2 Diezel cabs FL & RL like I do it my studio. Then I would mic the cab with a shure beta 57 and come direct out xlr to the board.

Cynic, Meshuggha ,The Faceless are running direct with no cabs or mics. I haven't seen Vai or Petrucci run it yet.

See I think the AXE FX presets are set up for direct output to the PA board live or direct Digital recording.

If you want to run a Power amp and cabinets you have to tweak the settings.

I think thats why some people are having problems with it or don't like it.

Then why would you still own those amps?

I would love to hear a comparison clip of your "matched" tones of the Herbert, Recto and JCM 800.

No need to be so opinionated. And I disagree that Line 6 is "digital shit" as do most people. I have a Spider Valve MkII and it happens to be the best value on the market. Is the axe-fx better from a preamp modelling standpoint, sure thing. But, it's twice as much money and doesn't include a power amp so it should be. With that being said, there is an axe in my future. It won't really be instead of my tube amp but, I respect strides in modelling and have a few like the j-station, v-amp pro, tonelab st and dg stomp. The axe would replace THOSE and not my tube amps. It'll also replace one of my tube preamp and rack effects unit setups (I yank the power amp and use it with the axe).

you would regret losing the diezel...save and add the axe fx later....this is crazy talk
ok so thats 1 for the diezel, (i am thinking about putting in a roadcase and storing it, what power amp would you recommend for an axe fx set up?

Fryette/VHT make the best power amps IMO.
