At The Gates

used to post on hc and on here a little a few years ago.

Saw at the gates last week (along with carcass et al). Their tone was sick. I'm assuming the best way to get something similar is peavey 5150? EMG 81/85 pickups. Need a whole new setup as I have virtually no guitar equipment.

I used to have an Engl Powerball which I loved. Was the new Invader any good?

I need suggestions for an entire new rig basically. I am thinking of getting a used ESP LTD EC1000 as can get it cheap and I enjoyed my EMG equiped les paul until i smashed it up

I assume megadeth... is still around and would be knowledgable?

Im playing a bit of at the gates/carcass tunes for a laugh but mainly black metal style tunes in my band combined with turbonegro style rock (think everything from satyricon to anaal nathrakh). Bit wierd but anyway..

Budget isnt really a concern on the amp set up though I would rather keep it below about £1200-1300 as I need a new car as well.

I'm not sure what Anders and Martin are playing now, I think either Engl's or 5150's? But yeah, a good rig for that style of tone would be a 5150 with an EMG equipped guitar, preferably with a mahogany body. Definitely go with a V30 loaded cab as well. You would laugh if you knew what they recorded Slaughter Of The Soul with.

yeh i know they used some POS for recording. They used 5150s at hellfest in france last weekend. To hear all that stuff live was awesome.

Oh, and Carcass is playing in August. I need to get me some tickets to that.

I saw them both at Sweden Rock. Im pretty sure At the Gates were using 5150s.

How great were Carcass?! Ammott had some nice tone going on!

i was quite drunk for carcass (they did come on at 1am) but i was right down the front and it was great. Agree about the tone. The band as a whole sounded awesome. - Do you remember the set ordeR? I'm going to see them again later in the year for which i think i'll stay a bit more sober.

Meshuggah played on the same day as At the Gates and they sounded great too.
