At what point are you a gigging guitarist?

anytime you are being paid for your services, that's a gig IMO. Now "paid" can have different meanings.

I have been invited to join a band here in austin. They have tons of gigs, but their guitarist is a bit older and running out of stamina.

So, back to the question. Am i now a gigging artist, or do i have to actually gig? Because i want the fame right now

Busking on a street corner, playing in cafes, bars, small venues, or to tens of thousands at festivals...
None of it counts until the first time somebody yells "Freebird!"

The female orgasm. It is a myth
She only told you it’s a myth as to not hurt your feelings.

I was told there would be blowjobs
Recent punchline to a Trucker joke I heard:

Guy: Line up 12 shots bartender, I'm celebrating my first blow job
Bartender: First blow job? Hell, 'll throw in another and make that a solid 13!
Guy: Fuck that! If 12 don't get the taste out of my mouth, that extra one ain't gonna help...

Your knees and back should hurt and you should be huffing and a bit dizzy while wrapping up cords and loading your amp. That is someone who gigs. But you keep doing it because it is rock and roll. I'm 55 and I don't know how long I'll be able to do this but going to try to keep going.

from 14 years old to 32 years old, hundreds of gigs.

been there, done that.

enough for me.
I'm with you, started at 18 and just got out of it at 43, I'm over it. Great times tho.

I never get enough. Playing 250-300 shows per year for the rest of my life would be a blessing. To be able to do it until I'm in my 80's like Buddy Guy would be killer.
