First let me say hello and thanks to everyone here for your opinions and knowledge. I have been lurking on this site for a little while and you guys have heavily influenced some of my recent/future guitar purchases.

That being said, I'll go ahead and get to the question at hand; Will the Axe Fx Ultra work with the old line of Atomic amps?

I have an old Atomic 112 15W that I currently use with my HD500 (I've owned everything from the POD 2.0 to the VG-99 to a couple JCM's, I just always find myself prefering the flexibility in a live setting). I'm happy with the volume I get from the amp as I'm pretty much only using it for stage volume or small club/bedroom playing. I usually just run XLR's to the board if I don't think I'm getting enough from the amp (That being said, the little booger is loud for a 15W 1x12).

I was already putting together a "must have" list (ART SLA2, Furman power conditioner, GCP, etc.) for the Ultra when I order it. My feelings won't be hurt if you tell me I can't get away with running it that way. I just wanted to double check before my Ultra shows up and turns into a paperweight til I can get by a Guitarcenter or something.

Thanks in advance for any help. I'm a newb otherwise I probably would have been able to find the answer in the forums alread (I promise I looked!)

Thanks again guys,
Jake

Welcome!

I had a Art SLA 2 and feel it was lacking in feel and tone. I used a RT2/50 and was much happier.

The GCP would be fine, I had one but I couldn't figure out how to get it to switch effects only with a 5 preset bank at the bottom. I use a MFC-101 now and happier.

My opinion is a power conditioner, Ultra, GCP and atomic 112 15 watt should be fine. Save your money on the Art SLA2 if you already have the powered 112 15 watt cab.

I had an ART SLA2 also but did not like the sound either. Bit to harsh in sound. I changed to the Matrix GT800 FX. Combined with some EVM12L's my search is over.

I agree with jlbaxe. If your Atomic is fine stick to that. Their is no reason to change the setp you like.

I own an Atomic 112-18 and an Ultra. Simple answer is yes it will work. Bear in mind though that it's not an FRFR (Full range Flat Response) cab (although it's a fairly flat speaker accross it's mid range) like the new Atomics so you may need to do some tweaking with cab sims etc to get a good sound. But it's a great little amp. I may get one day round to trying to shoehorn a tweeter into the thing and see how that works as far as FRFR goes.

Cool. Thanks for the replies. I was wrong I actually have the 18w. I don't believe Atomic ever made a 15w.

Again, I really appreciate the quick and informative replies.
Jake
