Attention all Wiz Heads-- Wizard content . Which one ??

It's been discussed before but I've never played or rarely seen any Wizard amps. So here's the deal --let say I was interested in one , which one would it be ? I'm a JCM800 man with Les Paul style guitars and super Strats playing classic rock up to hair metal. I've gone into the website and see The MC-1 , MC II and all the other offerings but can't figure out which one would best suit my needs . The only thing I can figure out is they are expensive . For that kind of cash they better be holy grail status. I saw another forum member had a bunch for sale and I should have paid better attention to the different models .

The good thing is there are usually multiple ones for sale here constantly so you should be able to find one no problem
 
MC ii all day long. Upper mid focused snarly sounds.
 
The MCII is the same as an MC on the lead channel except it has the contour. If you max the contour, it's the same as the MC. The MCII upgrades are mostly to the rhythm channel.

Since you are into Marshalls, you'd get along best with either the MC/MCII or the W800. There's also a Rock Standard, but I've never tried that.
 
I haven't played the Mc yet, or mtl. But i can recommend the w800. I love mine. It is the perfect amp for me. One channel just like the jcm 800.
 
I really like Wizards but if you're a "JCM800 man with Les Paul style guitars and super Strats playing classic rock up to hair metal" then a boosted 2203/4 is very, very hard to beat.

The MCii will be a great alternative for those tones, but I wouldn't say it does them any better. The original is always hard to top!

Agreed. I think it’s better to just see them as their own flavor that’s also great rather than try to make them into something they’re not (a Marshall)

many players think wizards are just well built marshalls.

if you're a marshall guy and that's the tone you're chasing... use a marshall, not wizard
 
The MTL I had was pretty scooped compared to the MC1; that particular MC1 was from 2010 and had the C transformers which are the most Marshall-y. As long as I left the SAT off, it was like a giant sounding 2203 that took boosts really well. With the Sat on, it didn't like the pedals.

+ 1 on the w800 I have both a mc1 and a w800 and the have played plenty of Marshall 800’s. The W800 will get you closest as it has that linear mids I found on 800’s and definitely more of that karrang especially with the treble pulled. The mids on the Mc 1 are a little fatter but still has that karrang. Now mines a 2016 MC 1 so the 2023 ones have a tone shift know that apparently brings out a little more kerrang so do the II’s I’ll have to report back when Rick finishes modding my MC1.
 
I agree with braintheory if you like marshall sound. If you like the modded marshall sound, though, i was about to buy a marshall jmp or jcm. Then @nzsteve comes over. I let him play and it sounded like the best modded marshall ever. I wasnt playing the same chords as him (or in standard) so i never knew how much the wizard would nail the modded marshall sound. I play with hotter pickups and drop tunings. I havent played an a or c chord on a high gain amp..thought they were acoustic chords, lol.
 
Grew up playing the 2203 boosted deal. Wasn’t bad back in the day, when that was all there was and they were $250-350 amps all day long. Had to do too much to make them passable.

My Wizard MC1 is a Marrshall without all the stuff that makes Marshalls suck. Haha…

Would add that most of the people who think a Wizard is just a well built Marshall are the same folks who haven’t actually owned and gigged a Wizard. 100% agree w if you want a Marshall get a Marshall.

Damn --dude .I can't tell you how many 4 holers and 800's I bought for 300.00 bucks !!!
