I've gotta figure out this stuff out. I have no idea how to turn things on or off. Like for example, some of the presets when you open them in the editor have drives or effects that are grayed out...how do you enable them?

how do you turn cab sims off, etc??

I'm running through my JVM for now. It also doesn't seem to be as loud as when just playing my JVM. Doesn't sound like 100 watts of tube power. i have the jvm master at like noon and the output on the axe at noon too and it's really not very loud...or as loud as you'd expect it to be.

Another question is how should I have this set up? The jvm only has a power amp in...so when I connect that to the axe, it only allows me to use one of the inputs and one of the outputs on the axe.

*I'm not at home to look but hit the "global" button, click through the tabs and make sure your global volumes and gains aren't bottomed out. There was an issue at one time where when upgrading firmware from one version to another was for some reason causing the output volume to bottom out. You'll need to bump it up again if thats the case.

*Have you tried hooking up your Axe to the FX loop on the JVM? Guitar>JVM front input>JVM FX send>Axe input1>Axe Output1>JVM Fx return.

*I only use the software editor for firmware updates, not editing so I can't help ya there. I'd try to get used to doing it on the unit anyway. It's much faster. Plus you'll want to be used to it so when your out playing live so you can modify parameters quickly if needed. To bypass anything in the chain of blocks, highlight it (turns black) and press the "bypass" button.

1. Highlight the effect block with the nav buttons, hit the EFF. BYP. button to enable/disable blocks.

2. Check your outputs on the global menu. Global>page. (right) Mine, and many other AxeFX came with Out1 and Out2 gain at -12 dB on this page.

Seriously, reading the manual which I'm no fan of with anything is a must with the box. Better yet, read the wiki.

I was reading the manual before I got the unit and plan to go through it again. Just haven't had time to match the 2 up at the same time yet. Been crazy busy. Thanks1

No doubt. But, still a daunting task when you try to take it all in, in one sitting.

Just wait til you (Sky) gets into MIDI and CC to start controlling this thing. Life gets REAL interesting then...

It's laid out beautifully, and logically... but there are SO MANY options and so much flexibility..... it takes some digestion.

The thing is actually very easy to use once you get used to it. That Eventide Eclipse I had was like trying to program launch coding for a nuclear silo. Talk about an outdated user interface. Jeeze.

So onto a midi floorboard...is it as easy as a gmajor to set up? I basically just set patches in order on the unit and then on the board laid out like: clean, crunch, main rhythm, lead, lead delay, rhythm flange, etc...

With the Axe you can custom map them. Hit the Midi button. Go through the tabs and find midi mapping "custom". And you can assign your patch changes however you like.

Yeah, you can do it that way. And it's fairly straightforward.

Getting the exp pedals, and IA switching, is the *fun* part. But it's covered thoroughly in WIKI and on the Fractal Forum.

Good deal...now to find the frickin time to dive into this. I have to get it set up for a gig by next friday.

This made lots of sense to me, when I started.

back to the global settings. The manual doesn't tell you where the gain should be set (or at least I didn't see it). Right now it's set to 0.0 for both outputs.

That's a good starting point.

are you referring to the link or the 0.0?

I'm asking because what should I be turning up in the global settings to make it louder overall? At 0.0 it seems kinda quiet as I stated earlier.

Was referring to O.
Where are you plugging it in, where are your in and output knobs set?

FWIW, I had to run the input of my DAW at MIC level just to get a strong enough signal.
Really? I have to run the output below 9 o'clock on the Axe if I set the inputs of where ever it goes to mic level.

I'm doing the 4cm I think.
guitar - axe input on front
axe out 2 mono - jvm input
jvm fx send - axe input 2 mono
axe output 1 - jvm return

Started working on my first patch tonight based off the 800 sim...

In my opinion the first 27 pages are mandatory before really tinkering. The FX block details can be read when you're working with the individual FX but not learning how the base unit operates is a recipe for frustration.

I still need to get the CC thing going. I'm looking forward to loads of whammy pedal overuse and abuse.

That's weird because I'm keeping the output at 11:00 P.M. or lower with the preset outputs at 0 and am getting hot line inputs.

Exactly, this thing has plenty of output. If I were to argue either way, I'd say it's on the hot side.
