AxeFx vs Kemper vs real amplifier.

Im kinda halfway in between Im heavily invested into randall mts gear i currently own 4 mts amps an RM100 head an RM50 head an RM50 Combo and an RM4 Preamp and 11 modules seems that i have to keep buying amps to store my modules but anyways MTS is an interesting take on modeling since the models are actual tube preamps that just happen to be modular and switchable and most do a damn fine job at emulating whatever amp they are designed after. Im not talking about the stock modules that came out with the head but instead about the amp modding companies such as Jaded Faith MOds, Salvation Mods and Voodoo Amps as well as a few smaller modders these are highly researched,engineered,tested and produced with the highest quality and they are constantly coming out with new models and upgrades for current modules. They change the faceplates to totally cool and custom designs add switches and potentiometers that change the tone in great ways add options that the original amps never had and can do custom orders of a module to emulate any amp you want (it just takes a comission fee and a couple of days of R&D). The best part I guess is that the modules and the amps that they plug into are all tube and sound great, there were a few stock modules that came out with the amps that were good like the SL+ (jcm800) and the Tweed (fender tweed) but the majority were just subpar its amazing what the mod companies have been able to do. yea, I'm an MTS guy, but I'm going to pick up the Kemper or Axe. I just can't decide upon which one yet. I'm not sure I'll ever be able to. I can't play either before I buy one, which is a bummer

Yes, It is hard to tell which is which when A/B. But when asked which one sound the best, 9 out of ten will pick the real amp.

Except in the case where a well known boutique amp builder chose the Axe-II's tone over his real deal on a recording

Well, yeah. That was the 10%. Couldn't be that hard at a 90% clip, but I don't think that's accurate. Probably use to be. In the Ultra days I cusually could pick out the sim 90% time.

IDk, the studio stuff sure, more than most guitarist would want to spend. But the LIVE is only a couple more hundred than the Palmer PDI load boxes. And they won't work with pedals and preamps. Nor can you load IRs into them or control them with MIDI. Plus they are extremely limited in the different sounds you can get. I'm not sure what else is on the market to even really compare. Not cheap, but not over the top for what it can do.

Not cheap, but not over the top for what it can do.

It is probably a more expensive solution than an AxeFX or Kemper in terms of what you get (cab/mic sims vs amp/effects/cab sims), but it's a damn good cab/mic sim that you can still use your existing amps with. So for someone that likes their amps and doesn't want to change all that out for a digital rig, the Two Notes stuff makes sense.

Also, there are some vids of a guy using a handful of off the shelf pedals and a CAB and getting some pretty decent tone. You could potentially reduce your rig to pedal board and guitar, plus whatever monitoring setup you have...one step easier than other digital methods (unless you don't switch amp models with the modeler in which case, why would someone do that). If in ears monitoring, you are carrying two items in with you.

I've run a few pedals direct into the LIVE with the same results as this. really nice. It's to the point of, do I want to use my amp? Preamp? or Pedals?

Very versatile.

Thats sounds freaking great ..you could just run a tube preamp or something like a Bogner red pedal.

Fact is, I was aiming to get the 3U rack KPA just to check it out and see what it does. But after speaking with progfreak over on the Diezel subforum, my sights started to home in on the Two Notes line up.

I don't think it's overpriced whatsoever. The tech that's in these boxes is top grade, as are their circuits, components, and what you can actually DO with them.
